The conference room had that familiar lysol mates with windex smell. In its own bizarre way, it had become over time almost comforting, something always there to expect. The one thing he always expected to have a chance to figure out though, he no longer did.

"Look, what you just saw--"

"Colby, what the hell was that?"

The former soldier secured his hands together and attempted to breathe, slow and steady, not incongruous to mere moments ago. "Don, it will never happen again."

"Look, I know this job can be stressful. These cases can get to you, but you just have to distance yourself sometimes. Do you want to take some time off?"

"No, no, it's not that." Colby's shoulders methodically relaxed and stiffened up. But there was just no way he could shake this feeling. As much as tried to harden his demeanor, Don could still see the angst. There were just some things you couldn't fake.

"Go on home Colby. You need to."

And Colby, so tired of all the misery, of all his pain, just didn't have the energy to argue anymore. He closed his eyes. Fighting hard against his emotions, he nodded slowly in agreement. "Okay."

Next/Part Four: Grief.
