I decided shortly after (or before, can´t remember) coming here that I wouldn´t write in my lj because it would make me homesick and prevent me from thinking in Spanish. However, after being here eight weeks I´ve gotten pretty much over being homesick every time I think about the US. And it´s just silly to say that this makes me think in English too much, because I think in English anyway, and I´ve gotten to the point where I can switch back and forth pretty quickly anyway.
So, Costa Rica. I LOVE the rain here! It´s hard and there´s thunder and I get really really energized every time it rains, no matter where I am. That´s especially nice if it rains during a boring class at school, or when I´m at a mall, looking at clothes for hours on end with my host mom and sister. I have decided that the best feeling in the world is the wet electrical feeling in the air when there´s a thunderstorm nearby.
And since it´s winter here now, it rains practically every day, generally more than once. I´ve gotten caught outside and completely soaked three times walking home from school, during what appeared to me to be full-blown tropical storms! I now feel like the song 'If you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain' applies very well to me. Unfortunately people have been telling me that there are nasty chemicals in the rain here and I should try not to get wet. Oops. My umbrella has since become my absolute best friend, and occupies its own special place in my backpack.
In other news, I put up a bunch of photos from my host mom´s digital camera on a photobucket account. The username is calliecostarica, and the actual site is
