Idk if I'm being a bit silly with being worried about this (maybe i'm jealous! =p) and all but it just seems a bit too close for comfort tbh. Here seems a pretty good place to rant about it I guess! And a reason to use lj for once!
It has to do with Missingno. Master's fic fics who has a bandwagon of followers and more weekly updates and one-liner reviews then you can shake a crack fic at and all. In this relatively early chapter of his he brings in Miror B to his fic in which he proceeds to advertise my fic. *Within* his chapter, not just in author's notes (that's just on top of it).
I don't mind about that and all (why should I mind free advertising after all? =p) but it just seems odd to me is all - it seems to be the reason for him to bring Miror B into his fic after all. Obviously that's not an issue in itself although I do go 'uh.... guys?' when people go about recommending both my fic and MM's one when there's a whole lot of other stuff out there on sppf that's surely better than a crack fic and a lightly-written parody fic that had a long hiatus the year previous.
However... in a chapter done about two years back I had a character act like Captain Falcon in perfoming Falcon Dakim Kicks and Punches for the heck of it (which is what occurs in the game as well, or the punching anyways). Not terribly original but a friend had suggested and it was a certainly entertaining idea at the time and had bonus in-joke properties between myself and said friends (and others there at the time) that I used it and credited him for the idea. It seems however that MM also has a character in his fic perform such a thing (a 'Jack Pawwwwunch')...about every second chapter recently and I cannot help but wonder if that is 'inspired' by my story.
I suppose it's hard to say but then there is one thing that most certainly was - back in April for the first day of the month I had a drunk character narrate a short chapter for fun (because well, April Fools!). Not long after his readers were suggesting he have a Psyduck narrate a chapter (top of this page and bottom of the previous), one even saying 'like our version of [my fic's chapter]'. ("Sort of our equivalent of Tom's narrated chapter from The Retelling of Pokemon Colosseum"). And he did.
Again, it's not the same thing as mine exactly and all but it's certainly the same idea, and it just doesn't sit very well with myself. =/ That and although I'm not against making references to other things or even fics (I've done many a reference myself) there's a point when it just seems more like riding someone else's ideas and dare I say bordering to copying or relying on other people's jokes instead of your own. And now I'm wondering what else is in his fic that is also in mine.
But idk I'm probably just bitter due to other stuff or something, am I just being crazy? Do tell! =p Chances are a couple of likely readers may have already heard this too but eh.
