Just a post to compare from last year.
We're in much better shape financially from last year. Coming up on the one year mark at HPB from me which has been useful. Is that one job enough for both of us to live on and cover all of our expenses? No. But it's a nice steady paycheck and the quarterly bonuses are nice shots in the arm, plus I have automatic deposits going into my 401(k). Mel's been at a nice-paying temp job for about a month and her paychecks have been very nice. Between the two of us, we're actually (slightly) in positive territory without us having to watch every penny and not being able to afford to do things. We've got breathing room, just in time for Christmas. After all, we've got a total of 4 kids from my siblings to buy presents for.
This is much nicer than last year when we were depending on one part-time job. It's also the first time in years when I'm not having to consult Quicken for every purchase to make sure I have enough money.
All in all, we're doing fine.
