Absence much? To make up for it, let's have a nice long talk about the last two weeks. Or rather, the last two weekends.
Friday
My two older sisters returned from the Sunshine State for a week. They invited me to a little suare their friends were having. I had nothing better to do on a Friday night, and I've known their friends for a damn long time so it's not like it was awkward... much. I'm first to arrive which seemingly never happens. But slowly people begin to come in. Erin and Angie along with Eben showed up next and joined the humdrumness. It really started out bad. I even had to quip "You know it's a slow party when everyone is being entertained by 'Everybody Loves Raymond" having been playing on the TV. They seemed to agree with me as the drinks were laid out for enjoyment.
I'm honestly not a big fan of being dead ahead drunk. I prefer to keep my sense and sensibility in the realm between tipsy and heavy. But having secured a ride that evening, I think my little detector shut off. I started off with a rum and coke and a paltry 7Up and Absolut.
After we all sipped pleasantly on our first drinks (or in Nikki and Kelly's case, third. They decided to start the party before everyone showed up apparently), we busted out the Wii. We first undertook Smash Brothers Brawl. Believe it or not, this was my first time playing the new Nintendo. The controllers are a lot more comfortable than I first imagined. But I came to the realization that I much prefered the traditional controller for a game like Smash Brothers. After awhile, we switched over to Mario Kart. This shit is awesome. Mario Kart is a title that has never disappointed, and this was no exception. Big winner.
It was right after Mario Kart that things got interesting. Amidst racing Shy Guy Beach, Kelly got up and offered fixing a drink for anyone. I took up the offer and asked for a Screwdriver. It came to my attention that I already had one. My response was to chug it down and say "Ok, can you make me another one?". She asks me how I like it. And suddenly, I don't know how to answer. So I'm a tipsy idiot and say "Uh.. half and half?" Yep. I'm an idiot. About 15 minutes after downing my "have some orange juice with your vodka" drink, I boot.
Let it be known that is the first time I've ever lost my liquor. And even at that, I attain it to the fact of how fast I was drinking than how much. I felt really bad because I hurled right on Kelly's rug. Everyone was spot on though getting right to work to clean the puke out of the rug. Meanwhile, I get a massive wave of exhaustion and pass out. I'm just lucky this wasn't a frat boy party otherwise I would've woken up with a shaming no doubt.
I call my ride and make it in my bed by midnight. Not before getting dizzied by the car ride back and hurling up another round. Not a proud moment. Seriously, I can hold my liquor. Just don't hand me a half-and-half screwdriver.
Saturday
Light headedness, but no hangover. Booyah.
Plans to go to Littleton were halted by Erin's mysterious illness. We keep it low key and just stay in town. Us three, along with Kelly and my mom, pick up lunch at Friendly's before heading to Chuckster's for a round of mini golf. I creamed them all, naturally. I miss golfing. I'll definitely make plans to hit up the links this summer. After a couple dollars spent on the batting cages, I settled on going home while they all did.. something else, I don't know.
My dizziness didn't impair me, but I was really resided to the fact I needed an "in" night. So I harbored myself by the couch alone and took in The 40 Year Old Virgin. Sometimes the best thing after an eventful night is a nothing night.
Sunday
Mother's Day.
We all went down to Boston for the day. My mom was doing the driving though I knew right away I should have. I'm a much more aggressive driver than she is. Also, unlike a lot of people, I like to drive in the city. It puts my burly aggressiveness, innate sense of direction, and passion for pressing the gas pedal to good use.
But we manage to get to a cheap parking garage and proceed on foot. First thing we do? Get lost. Of course. We ended up going down the wrong street before correcting our mistake. Our target was the New England Aquarium. These sorts of things aren't usually my thing, but I did enjoy myself somewhat. The main exhibit was definitely the penguins as its centralized location could be seen from everywhere in the building pretty much. Silly birds. Of course, there was a gigantic tank in the center that you followed around as you went up the stairs. In said tank were the most interesting things in the whole place, in my book. Manta rays, tiger sharks, and a huge ass turtle.
After we saw all that needed to be seen, we headed to Quincy Market. My sisters did most of the looking and shopping. But it was such a beautiful day out I didn't mind standing around in the sun. Besides, the street performers kept me company. We ate lunch at Bertucci's. Brick oven pizza at it's finest. After that, we took back to home.
Nikki, Kelly, and my mom all decided to go see a movie while Erin and I reconvened back at Kelly's to play more Smash Brothers. My love for the game increases ten-fold. I head home in time to get some sleep before work.
Friday
Anxiousness was the name of the game this evening. I was preparing for my adventure north the next day. But I had nothing to do that night. Jess was working all night and others in town were busy elsewhere. So I resided to my apartment to do some writing and watching the Celtics flounder up a storm in Game 6. Nothing more worth noting.
Saturday
A rendezvous with Cassie in Littleton was planned and had been looked forward to for the entire week. I book it up there for 1:30. After watching some Scrubs on her new HDTV (friggin sweet), we start to play some Guitar Hero. Jason shows up shortly after. Unlike last time, we refrain from doing battle on "Through the Fire and Flames" expert level.
We take to the driveway to play a silly game of H-O-R-S-E. Jason made the condition that, as the self-proclaimed "worst basketball player on the face of the planet", the only way he would play is if we went golfing later. I made the pact and we played the game. Cassie, as the only proven baller, schooled us all. But I of course dropped my own science with a couple shots.
Jason headed to his house for dinner afterward. Cassie and I thought it a good idea to go retrieve some vittles of our own. We settled on Subway. It was the illustrious return for me. I used to be king of that Subway. You know the guy who's at the bar so much the bartender knows his name and his drinks? Yeah, that's how I was with Subway when I lived there. Of course, all the people are different so they have no idea. But I'm pretty sure my legacy lives on.
Laura was summoned to Subway to meet up with us. It was good regailing them of tales and anecdotes like in meetings past. Jason calls and says he has returned to Cassie's... only to find us not there. So we finish up at the 'Way and head back up there. We made reservations to go bowling in St. J.
Ah, Golden Crown Lanes. There's another place full of memories. Not that I ever
broke the alley or anything. We shoe up and get our lane. It doesn't take long for Jason to warm and start nailing down the pins like it was his job. I distinctly remember bowling with this guy the first time he had ever gone. Yeah, he still killed us all then claiming "I've never even bowled before". Some people are just born with the ability to roll round rocks at 10 strategically placed targets I guess. So JJ's destroying us all, as we fight it out for second place. I progressively get better as JJ progressively gets worse. Except for him, we all had our best game on the third and final game. I harrowed in a 120 and still came in last. Naturally, as has become ritual, we dialed up "Mr. Roboto" and "Immigrant Song" on the juke before leaving.
As we drove back, and seeing the clock already reach 9:30, I remember feeling deep sadness realizing I had to leave soon after to get home before falling asleep. But seeing that my plans the next day wouldn't need achievement until 1:30, I requested to stay over. Cassie obliged, much to my delight.
As we got back to her pad, we decided on watching a movie. The selection was Robin Hood: Men in Tights. You can never beat a classic. Loaded up on Mountain Dew and a little bit of overtiredness, the movie is that much funnier. How is it you can watch certain movies a hundred times and it's still as hilarious as the first time you saw it? We came to the common conclusion: this was Mel Brooks' best, with all due respect to Spaceballs.
Jason left after the movie, it being midnight and all. Cassie, Laura, and I put on Sportscenter while playing Dirty Minds. Yes, we all definitely have them. We were all pretty burnt out after that. So Laura left and Cassie went upstairs to bed. I continued to watch Sportscenter until 2:00.
Sunday
It becomes official. I want a Wii.
After waking up, it's revealed that Cassie's dad had assembled and hooked up their newly purchased Wii. He actually did it the night before, even regailing us with a call to technical support about an error. The disc wouldn't read no matter what he did. The culprit? The machine was upside-down. Whoops!
So as I'm standing there trying to wake up, Cassie and I create our little profiles. Speaking of which, as discussed and decided this weekend, I've changed my video game handle from MC Hammer to Daaaaaaaa! Because that's the sound everyone makes when I defeat them!
So we're set to try out Wii Sports. She and I do a game of bowling. It was similiar in motion and even feeling of the real thing we did the night prior. I edged out Cassie by a mere 5 pins. Baseball was much more entertaining. Only 3 innings, but that's a good thing since it would take a lot of focus to do a full 9 inning game. Our first game was just getting the hang of it, so we ended up tying 1-1. The second game, however, will definitely live in our history.
It's the bottom of the 3rd, and I'm down 2-1. With 2 outs, I get a nice single up the middle. I alert her she's about to pull a Papelbon--blowing a surefire save (take THAT, you jackass!). Down in the count 2 strikes, she makes a nice curveball like the others that got me swinging. Except it wasn't fast enough, so I popped it up and out of the yard. Walk-off two run homerun. You better believe I was elated and threw it in her face.
We also tried out Mario Kart. We played a bunch of races, alternating between the regular controller and the wheel. The wheel actually makes it even more difficult. I wasn't used to motion sensativity like that which made it tougher to steer. Eventually I did get the hang of it, but still managed to only rank 5th overall.
After indulging in Mary's (amazingly made) breakfast pizza, I set sail back to Concord. Made it in time to pick up my apartment a bit before Jess got out of work. I picked her up with plans to hang out for the day. We had decided to go mini golfing at Chuckster's for the afternoon. We arrived to find the place absolutely SWARMED. There wasn't one free parking spot. It's like everyone got the memo to party at Chuckster's at 2:00 on Sunday. Seeing the distubing line of wait and the unpleasant rain-threatening skies, we decided to head back into town.
A movie was our substitute. Until showtime, we got a little dinner at Wendy's and watched Scrubs at my place. Our movie of choice was Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Having no expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. Except for a VERY UNCALLED FOR nude scene (and not the good kind) I found the film very likeable. It wasn't anything special, really. But it definitely had enough good moments. It wasn't until a little more than halfway through the movie that I realized this was a Judd Apatow movie. His movies since Anchorman and The 40 Year Old Virgin have been all partial hit-or-completely miss. This one was definitely more the former. I gave immediate points for the addition of Mila Kunis. Sweet <3
We call it a night shortly after, and I jet home.
Am I back in blogging action completely? We shall see.
