Weeks Are Meant to End.

One thing I've always missed about school was the semblance of importance that evenings and weekends have. Every job I've had always had me working a different schedule each week and mostly all the time on weekends. And even though I've technically been full time for over half a year, it's taken that long to fully gain back that weekend relevance. It's good to be back. To celebrate, I'm gonna start jotting down about the greatness that is my weekends again just like back in the day.

FRIDAY

Things took a sudden change at Target. While I'm still utterly pissy about the whole scheme of things (i.e: the worthless execs), my situation got slightly better. They bumped me up a little bit. I'm moving from the in-stocks team to dayside backroom member effective next Monday. It's not necessarily a promotion, though it does entail a raise. Tacked on to the annual evaluation with compensation I just received, I should at least be able to take home a little bit more coin per pay period. If I did the math right, it should be an extra 50 bucks per paycheck (before Uncle Sam takes his bite). I'm looking forward to this move as it gives me some slight perks. Number one: No more annoying ass customers. Number two: No more pushing stock onto the floor. Number three: I am now in control of the radio back there. And damned if I don't blast Led Zeppelin and AC/DC all damn day. Don't get me wrong, I still dislike that place. And I'll undoubtedly be back on the job hunting trail again with a couple months. But it'll suit me for the time being.

Work maintains to be a bore, as usual. Afterward, I hung out with Jess in the parking lot for a little bit while eating pizza. It was a damn beautiful day out. Winter is finally officially gone--well, hopefully. New Hampshire loves to sneak one last freak snow storm in right at the last second. I shipped home just in time to burn my Netflix and get them out in the afternoon's mail pickup. Score. I snuck in a little nap before heading out to Bill's.

Andrea's parents were moving down south meaning she was throwing a little get together via them. We all met over at Bill's. Well, except Joe. He seemed to have not gotten the memo we were meeting at Bill's. He called Anders when he got there and had to stick it out alone with Andrea's parents until we drove out there. Bummer. After succesfully freaking out Bill's cat with a stuffed dog and my innate freakishness, we all set sail to Andrea's.

We got reintroduced to her parents though I'm sure they already knew us by now (her dad sure remembered me replying to my reintroduction "Oh yeah, the Yankee guy!"). While they conversed outside, the rest of us canoodled in the kitchen grabbing drinks and talking, mostly about the going-ons (read: bullshit) at Target. We then moved the party downstairs for many rounds of pool. Around the fourth straight game against Chris, things turned into a laugh riot. Let's just say that double entendre was the name of the game. Ironically, it was the only time I beat him the entire night. He says it's only because he was laughing. But I beg to differ.

Andrea's dad was barbecuing which made the event that much better. We had our meals on the porch while enjoying the company of the "grown ups". They dispersed to take our spots playing pool while we whipped up a fire in the pit. There's something magical or whimsical about sharing stories and just shooting the shit around a bon fire at night. It's very nostalgic and great.

We made our escape at nearly 10:00 back to Bill's, at which time some Guitar Hero was in order. After getting my shit ruined on "War Pigs" expert edition, I took off. While I was absurdly tired, I still managed to stay up an additional hour and a half to play Chrono Trigger.

SATURDAY

A long overdue clean haul was in order. I managed to get my chores done and clean up this hellhole. Well, "clean up" is being nice. But it did look a lot more presentable than it has in months, let's put it this way.

Much of the day was spent relaxing. I had plans with Jess after she got out of work, which wasn't until after 6:00. Until then, I achieved said chores, did a little writing, and beat Chrono Trigger. One of the chores was to fold the laundry I did last week. I have a pretty bad habit of not putting my clothes away after I do laundry, leaving them in the hampers until I shake the laziness or end up needing the hamper for a new pile of dirties. Well, this last laundry day it took 3 loads to do all my dirties. That's actually a record. Needless to say, it took me nearly 40 minutes to put it all away. And naturally when I was collecting my new pile of dirty clothes it filled an entire basket. It's like a never ending cycle of laundry. Oi is me.

Jess arrived right as I was watching the Yankees give away yet another game to the Indians (what the hell is up with this baseball season? That's for another entry). We set off to Friendly's for dinner. It's unquestionably our favorite place to go. We've been there so many times its not even funny. Our waitress gave off lesbian vibes which me and Jess poked fun of all night.

After being well nourished, we headed over to Chuckster's for a round of mini golf. I had been to the establishment before but never had partook in the mini golf (just the batting cages). Jess mentioned the last time she went, her and Meagan didn't play with a score card. I relayed that it would be impossible for me to do that. Men are creatures of competitiveness. I have never met one man who was not competitive. There are certain levels of competitiveness for sure. But every single man has a least the lowest level brewing in their blood. Myself, I am moderately competitive. I don't get obsessive like some goons. But I do like to compete even if I don't win.

So with that lovely conversation, I do what every male would do: proclaim how much I was going to kick my girlfriend's ass in min golf. The challenge was on. And as far as mini golf places go, this one was probably one of the best I've been to. I highly recommend it. As for the challenge, it was really close the entire night. Real back and forth. It would always be one stroke for me one moment then her up one stroke the next. I did take the win by 2 strokes by the end of the night thanks in part to this magnificent final putt for a birdie on the final hole. We both sank a hole-in-one during the round.

After my victory dance in the parking lot (and getting subsequently smacked with a golf putter), we came back to my place and fell asleep watching a movie.

SUNDAY

Sundays are always great because it's perfectly fine to be lazy. If I had a dollar every time I used the term "lazy Sunday" in my life, I would be a rich man. Granted, if I had a dollar for everytime I began a sentence "If I had a dollar for every time...", then I would be a richer man. But I digress...

So it was indeed a lazy Sunday. Jess and I watched Scrubs while I prepared us breakfast and got ready for the day. She left for work in the afternoon which left me alone for the afternoon.

I took the time to beat Chrono Trigger one more time before putting it away again, quite possibly for another 4 years like last time (sad face). I then took the time to look into Kingdom Hearts that Joe let me borrow. What I hate about starting a new game is the adjustment I need to the camera system between games. Chrono Trigger was a classic look down-side scrolling standard RPG format. Kingdom Hearts is a 3rd person moving camera stifle. It always takes me two or three days to get fully adjusted to that, resulting in partial headache/motion sickness. I already found a nitpick in the style of Kingdom Hearts. I'm so used to being able to control the camera rotation from Rogue Galaxy with the right joystick. KH doesn't allow that. That'll take awhile before I'm used to. But anyway, the game will come to me no doubt.

After incurring my video game induced headache, I made a dinner of 3 toasted ham and cheese sandwiches whiel watching a plethora of Scrubs. There's something about a lazy Sunday that makes video games and 3 hours of hospital related comedy not a waste of time.

Until Friday comes again, keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars!

video games, weekend
