so i've been complaining and venting about our new relocated headquarters. its a massive jail like building. very new and snazzy, but a jail with like lots and lots of windows and sunshine. you can't even have appointments with people outside of the company because theres really nowhere to eat outside of the cafeteria in the basement, so you have appointments with people and you meet up with you "appointment" while your team is like a foot away from you eating near you. and even tho we start at work at 8am to 5pm, the buses pick you at up 6:40am to drop you off at 7:15am.. so deathly early so they can force you to work an extra 45 minutes. and then they offer shuttle buses back to a decent subway stop closer to central seoul-- but only starting at 5:40pm! as if we don't finish work at 5PM!! they want to sneak in that extra 40 minutes for you to work hard hard hard.
so i'm gona end this post with a very sad story. and it's real. 100%.
this guy who is a general manager, and i heard is a very sweet guy who has been a sort of mentor-type figure for my boss, passed away this week. he told me this before lunch and then i got stupid and cried while listening to the story. he told me that this good friend of his that passed, was on his way to the shuttle bus pick up point near his house- but realized that he forgot to bring a tie since he was interviewing some new recruits for our company and he needed a tie! so he rushed back home and picked up his tie and then rushed back to catch the shuttle bus. (because if you don't catch the damn shuttle bus, you fucking pay 30 bucks at least via taxi to get there. or you're basically 30 minutes late if you take public transportation.) so, he ran... and he collapsed due to a heart attack. it was so early in the morning that no one was around to perform cpr or help him until it was too late. apparently he has high blood pressure, but no one saw this coming and he was still relatively young at age 46. my boss said when he went to his funeral, he was so upset he couldn't immediately enter the room where he pays respects. he leaves behind a wife and two sons. a 5th and 8th grader. i cried at this thought. rest in peace.
