No More Solaris

So, I dumped my last Solaris system. I am now 100% BSD.

The crazy ex-girlfriend is gone forever! (Inside joke...)

In fact, I'm currently having some fun with it. My work desktop is now FreeBSD 8.1 on sparc64. Out of the box, on a 2 processor system, it's working fantastically.

I've had exactly one glitch, and strictly speaking, it's Xorg's fault, not FreeBSD: the sunffb driver misidentifies my graphics card as an Elite3D and not a Creator3D. Once I understood what was going on, a quick edit of the driver and I'm in back in business with a fully accelerated desktop.

: chapman; uname -prs
FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE sparc64

: chapman; sysctl -a hw |g ...
hw.machine: sparc64
hw.model: Sun Microsystems UltraSparc-III
hw.ncpu: 2
hw.machine_arch: sparc64
