The arrival of Yu-Gi-Oh!'s 20th anniversary and "The Darkside of Dimensions" has spawned renewed interest in the original series and a new set of action figures. I didn't need anything to renew my interest, but I'll take the toys, thank you!
My last set of YGO figures came 4 years ago, so you can imagine I was excited to get this new "set." Except... it's not really a set, as both Yami and Seto were made by two different companies (Seto by Kaiyodo's Vulcanlog line, Yami by Max Factory's Figma line). End result: scaling is a little off, finishes don't match, I am a sad panda : p How am I supposed to mash their plastic bodies together now?!
Here's the boxes. The only thing these really have in common at first glance is the 20th anniversary logo (which got cut off of the bottom box in the photo).
Full figure shot of both action figures. They both stand about 6 1/4" tall including the base. See how shiny Seto is in comparison? I also had a hell of a time trying to pose him so I just swapped out hands and gave up. The only difficulty I had with Yami was trying to stuff the Puzzle's chain into his hand.
I didn't crop out the bigger Yami figure in the back since it's a new item for me as well ^^ I'd forgotten there was an even earlier set of figures than the one I picked up in late 2012, and then rediscovered it and decided to splurge and buy a used one off eBay. The Yami one was far nicer than the Seto one, so that's why I don't have the matching Seto for that set.
Up close shot of Yami. Expression on his face is great and the joints look fairly seamless considering how poseable he is.
Up close shot of Seto. Face isn't bad though the eyeliner is a smidge heavy IMO. Boy those are shiny pants! I admit, I can't stop staring at the joint/balls in his crotch : /
I also have the Dark Magician figure (not shown) which was done in more of the manga-style, and in greyscale (I've always preferred the anime version of DM). He was created by Vulcanlog too so he matches with Seto but looks a little weird standing by Yami's side *shrug*
