No, not because of the movies you choose to see (read previous blog post). "Meet the Spartans" dropped to number 5 and "Juno" is beating it. "Hannah Montana" is number 1 this week, but there's no accounting for what kids want. When a parent has a child yelling for them to buy a ticket to some shitty pop singers movie, you act.
I'm talking about people who believe everything they read. Especially on the internet. Can you not research things for yourselves? Can you not do a quick Google search to dispell a widely circulating email rumor before you pass it on to those with a few more IQ points? Obviously not.
What am I talking about?
I'm talking about receiving the 14th copy (FOURTEENTH?!?) of an email forward about Barack Obama and his apparent want to get the presidency in order to suicide bomb us all.
You've all read it or heard some moron reciting its message word for word. If not, please allow me to recap the important points. Try to keep up:
Obama is a radical Muslim
...takes great care to conceal this fact
...step-father was a RADICAL Muslim and mother was an ATHIEST (THE HORROR!!!)
...was sworn into office on the Koran
...will NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance
...also turns his back to the flag and slouches
Okay, so - let's break this down.
Obama did, in fact, spend some time in a predominately Muslim school. It was considered Muslim because a majority of the kids that went there were Muslim. He also attended Catholic schools.
Here is a direct quote from Senator Obama:
"During the five years that we would live with my stepfather in Indonesia, I was sent first to a neighborhood Catholic school and then to a predominantly Muslim school; in both cases, my mother was less concerned with me learning the catechism or puzzling out the meaning of the muezzin's call to evening prayer than she was with whether I was properly learning my multiplication tables."
THAT ATHEIST BITCH! She cared more about her son learning math and other factual subjects that may one day assist him in the real world than the religions he was studying! What a bad parent!
Speaking of mother Obama's religious affiliations (or lack-thereof), Barack has said:
"For my mother, organized religion too often dressed up closed-mindedness in the garb of piety, cruelty and oppression in the cloak of righteousness."
I will explain for the Toby Keith fans. What he's saying is that his mother was really more non-denominational or agnostic than atheist. She thought that following only ONE religion left you closed off to the teachings and positive parts of the MANY world religions. She is also saying that many cruel and inhumane acts (i.e.- the Crusades) were carried out by religious zealots.
He also goes on to say that she gave him a virtual cornucopia of religious ideas. She kept in her house "the Bible, the Koran, and the Bhagavad Gita" as well as "Greek and Norse and African mythology." On high holidays, his mother might "drag me to chuch, just as she dragged be to the Buddhist temple, the chinese New Year celebration, the Shinto shrine, and ancient Hawaiian burial sites." She taught him that religion was "an expression of human culture" and "one of many ways that man attempted to control the unknowable and understand deeper truths about our lives."
Translation: she wanted her son to be well-rounded and understand that there isn't just ONE way of thinking out there. Religion is to be viewed as an idea and not to be taken word for word; a collection of stories that teach a lesson and offer guidance.
Am I getting anywhere?
Next - this swearing in with the Koran business. That is completely false. He was sworn in on the Holy Bible - unlike Minnesota congressman Keith Ellison, who WAS sworn in on the Koran. Oh, by the way, how many politicians that swear in on the Bible commit hideous and disgusting acts against the American taxpayer?
Finally, we come to the rumor that can be disproved by video. Barack Obama has LEAD the Pledge of Allegiance in Congress and puts his hand over his heart. There is a picture from a couple of years ago in which Barack Obama is on a stage outside during the NATIONAL ANTHEM standing with his hands together in front of him while other politicians on stage (who are ALSO not facing the flag) have their hands over their hearts. Guess what? Watch the National Anthem at a sports event. The rule is not that you MUST have your hand on your heart during the anthem. It's a choice. I sometimes do, I sometimes don't. Watch your favorite ball player and see if he does it. Some just take off their hats and look at the person butchering it on stage.

You know how I got all this information? I went to Google (or Snopes, just for fun) and typed in "Barack Obama Pledge of Allegiance"...that easy.
So before you send me some nonsense email that you're taking on faith without research, think about what you're doing and don't make me want to beat you with a keyboard.
