Seasons over.....

Tear, city section highschool football is officially over. This years champs are birmingham from the 4A and Fairfax in the 3A. This has been a really great season. I learned so much from my teammates and made some very close friends.

This has truely been an awsome season. Starting with our season opener, week 0, beating manuel arts 19-6. This game we were playing in the words of soto, "cholo ball". It was chaotic and we weren't a team we just out played them. Then week 1, we played Garfield. This really showed how ununited we were. We lost 7-40. Then week 2, we went on our first road game to Van Nuys. We won 35-23. We still werent a team. Then Week 3, we went out to Poly, at this point i had never won a game on Poly's field. We lost this one 20-21, the worst way to lose. This game ended up being a turning point for us. We started to become a family. The next week was homecoming, week 4, and our league opener. We lost 7-33. This did show improvement on our defense, we played th #1 offense in the league, who averaged 50+ points a game and we held them to 33. The next week, week 5, we went down to LA High. We won 35-28. We played a heck of a first half with two defensive touchdowns. The second half got shakey but we held them off. The week 6, Franklin came over to Marshall. we were hoping to crush them but it feel through. we lost this one 0-20. This brought our spirits down some. Then the following week, week 7, we play Eagle Rock. The game is a battle back and fourth then, in the fourth quarter our defense stopped them 3 and out. And the offense scored quick. We won this one 28-25 when their field goal kicker missed a 45 yarder. You could tell we really became a family here, we all rushed the field everyone jumping hugging cheering. That was a good feeling. Then week 8, we have a bye week. Easy practice nothing hard. Then came weeek 9, good ol' belmont week. We came, we played, we conquered. WE KILLED BELMONT. WE BROUGHT THE BELL HOME! the score was 35-27. that was such a good feeling. To have the bell. I remember seeing all of the team rush over to the bell and just dog pile all over it. Then the bus ride home. all the songs. "Ring my bell, ring my bell." and the chants "bus driver, bus driver" "Moran, Morand" That was amazing. Then came what might be our last game, week 10 Lincoln. We played a horrible first half. and were trailing, we went into the locker room, sat in a long hall and said nothing. the coaches said a few things but not much. we knew what we had to do. we came out of the half bangin. We ended up winning 26-18. This gave us a 12th ranked spot in the 3A(invitational) division playoffs. Week 11,We had our first playoff game in 4 years againt grant. we played a poor first half again but we came back again in the second to win 21-14. Then we went on to week 12, the quarter finals. This is the first time in 12 years we have been to the quarter finals, and the first time in marshall history that we had a home game. Lights were brought in and it was so cool. The defense played their game. we gave up 10 points in the first and none until the last 43 seconds of the fourth. We needed the offense to produce. Sadly our amazing season came to a close with a 7-17 loss to South Gate. Our final record goes like this pre-season 2-2 league 4-2 and post-season 1-1 this totals up to 7-5 a winning season.

From the hundreds upon hundreds of up downs we did in the summer, to the hundreds and hundreds of yards of bear crawls we did in the weeks leading up to and through out the season. we proved what marshall football really is. We are the heart, the soul, the perfect symbol of highschool football. I can tell you now this has been a great season. We went from 70 individuals, to 50 brothers. We had Moran as our "loving" (hahaha but true) father.

I will never forget the hours of movies we watched in the oral arts room and the pregame nights at Pat and Oscars. The 6 o'clock practices and the saterday morning film. The o-line d-line drills, two on ones. pat and go's and punting for points. Driving the sled for hours on end. Weight lifting in the off season and stong man competitions (the finger pains). The one on one on one on one drills and hitting. Dressing the tackling dummy up in an opponents uniform and moran calling, "D-line". The hours we spent going over plays and the coaches car lights leting us practice. The one on one drills in the rain slipping slidding and getting muddy. The ladders and the circle drill. The focused bus rides out to games and the sad and happy ones home. The feeling of playing with the guys you have come to trust the most and the feeling you get when you win with them. And most of all the guys i did all of this with, i will never forget you. If i could summarize this season in two word it would be FAMILY ACCOMPLISHMENT.

I now leave you with a couple of quotes from the season : "Leave No Doubt!" "Marshall Pride on Tree one, two tree" "I say Belmont you say Killa, Belmont, Killa, Belmont, Killa" "oo oo ah ooo ooo ah oo oo ah ooo ooo" and finally the best phrase of the season, me and james, "WE KNOCKING HEADS OFF"

and one final word of gloating, to all of you out there who talk trash about the football team all i gotta say is yall have nothing. We have a winning team, a bell, friends who will back you up, and a family.

MARSHALL PRIDE! LEAVE NO DOUBT!
