I've been having the same basic dream every night for weeks. It's a dream I've had for the past couple years only with new variations. It's a common dream, I'd guess that at least 60% of people who have attended school have it. I'm back in undergrad, or high school, it's the end of the semester, and woops I never went to class. How will I ever make up all that work? How will I have enough time to study for the final?
Now I'm dreaming that it's present time and I have to go back to high school. You see, Becky, you never took this math class. Yes, we realize you graduated high school, and college, and graduate school, but nevertheless we need you to sit in a room with 14-year-olds and take this course for nine months. But it's similar to the other dream because of course I don't go. I don't go but I worry about the fact that I don't go.
Last night was different. For the first time, I went to the glass! I went, and Julia was there, and Nick Froehlich, who tends to pop up in a lot of my high school dreams, and Durron. I'm sure there isn't much significance to the combination of these three but I can't stop thinking of the image of them sitting in desks pointed toward me. I guess we were doing group work. I told them that I hadn't come to the class in months, as if they wouldn't have noticed.
Sometimes in the dream I wake up and I say to myself, I know you think you were just dreaming that you're in school and missing months worth of class, but in reality you haven't gone to american history since January. And you're fucked.
No wonder I grind my teeth all night.
