As
snailbones so aptly put it: time to put you out an airlock, 2013!
This was quite the year for me, both good and bad.
My friend, Kate, lost her battle with cancer leaving her devoted husband, son, and a host of people who thought she was a fantastic human being behind.
In sharp contrast, the lovely and talented
minouette finally married her RJH and together they started their family :)
I let a couple of friends go (friendships, in my experience, are never really 'over', so I see this as a 'sabbatical' rather than a 'clear out yer desk by Monday' sorta situation). And then I went and rediscovered some friends that I'd lost touch with (I'm looking at you,
someotherathena,
peakoe, and the inimitable SF). I also made new online friends (
kuriadalmatia,
cherie_morte,
snailbones,
rebak1tten,
alizarin_nyc,
bittereternity,
chamekke,
ewinfic,
lily_severn,
vegawriters,
x_los, and
dionne_2k - if I missed any I'M SORRY! I love you all!). At this point in 2012 I sort of despaired that I was talking to myself on LJ, but now I know that others are out there and just as cracked as I am. Cheers to you all - you have no idea how much I enjoy these connections with you ♥
I took an extended summer work-staycation and hammered out my first big bang story ever (which ended up being the length of a small novel). I couldn't have done it without the unfailing support of my beloved
synap, and the irreplaceable
kuriadalmatia. As well as Orbit - always Orbit ;)
I published 25 works in 2013, 7 of which were art pieces (up from 2 in 2012).
I became a fanfic recc'er in the dying days of
crack_van, and also became a co-mod of
ushobwri (a community devoted to writing, and bitching about how hard it is - you should join) after it rose from the ashes of
wrisomifu.
Our family lost a dog (r.i.p. Tigger), and then gained one (the Golden Ninja, Saiko).
My Dad turned 70 and finally got himself onto the internet. My Mum recovered from breaking her hip and is even more unstoppable than before.
My amazing Grandma finally went to her great reward, and left me ALL of the family photos and her love letters from both of her husbands. I am in awe of the things I am learning from them… it's a little overwhelming but I'm happy that she felt that she could entrust them to me after keeping them safe for almost 70 years.
synap got to experience one of his film soundtracks in an actual theater, and I couldn't be more proud of him. He continued to shock, amaze, and amuse me in 2013 - I am a very lucky woman indeed ;)
We had a GREAT autumn and are in the grips of a real winter. We also survived the 2013 Ice Storm *victorious fistpump*
I have no clue what 2014 has in store for me, and I'm too old to waste time speculating about it. I'm just hoping for the best - for all of us.
I met a former junkie out begging on the street today and we got to talking. She was clear and clean, and had been for almost a year. She said that it was hard, personally, to beg for change on a street corner, but it was better than selling drugs or hooking. She had to have pride and faith in herself to make her sobriety work. I said that survival was the first step and that I thought she was making brave choices. It's not easy to do the right thing when no one cares about what happens to you. I gave her some money and wished her a better 2014 than 2013. All we can do is try to do better, so go forth and TRY, my blossoms. Remember, that I'm out in the ether rooting for your success, no matter what happens.
