Heh. This is funny.

So, the NSA PRISM program leak is causing quite a stir, no? I'm sorta surprised at the level of pearl-clutching going on - I just assumed the the U.S. government was abusing the already generous personal liberty infringements of the Patriot Act and doing something like this.

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION?!?!

OMFG, but its fugly. Here is a sample:

OK, first things first. This is supposed to be slide 4 or something. They have already introduced all of the platforms that they are surveiling. So, WHY are all of those platform icons part of the header??? And BTW, some of those logos are incorrect/out of date...

The "Top Secret" appears twice and moves throughout the other slides. *sigh* Just embed the disclaimer as a footer in the Master layout and be done with it. No one can miss the eyeball-bleeding shade of red you chose anyway.

NEVER make the title area a solid, horizontal object. As it stands now, the design ensures that a full quarter of the slide surface area is unusable. Oh, and placing your HUGE logos on either side of the title is a pretty bad idea too since most titles are longer than 3 words. And what is with the tiny font next to the main title? Is that a subtitle? Is it meaningful? If so, give it its own line in the title section. Soft return, bitches.

Bulleted text boxes in Office default colour scheme is the essence of boring, and OH HEY! there are all of those platform names again - THAT'S where you should use the logos!

Your web address isn't linked so its pretty pointless to include it on this slide (not that you're online while showing this to an audience 'cause, ya know, who knows who might be watching...).

Ugh, there's so much more, but that's what made me initially rageful.

It turns out that there's a designer who saw the slides and redesigned them for the NSA. Here is a sample of what he did:

Nice. Subtle, clean, and sexy. This guy did it in Keynote, but the principles are the same. Just because you are watching and silently judging an entire population doesn't mean that you know shit about design. It seems that even in the New Cruelty a safer society, you still need people with a sense of style and a working knowledge of the colour wheel...

people who haz tha phunny, asshole douchebaggery, stories from the far side, linkity-link-link, powerpoint, stop the world - i wanna get off, you've got to be fucking joking, this is why we can't have nice things, news, design, picture, blythe is gonna blow, fucktwittery, stupid people, omgwtf, phunnies, bastards
