I recently went to the Queen West Art Crawl with
reynardin and
faunalia and found myself mostly underwhelmed. It seemed a lot more crafty than I anticipated (don't get yer knickers in a twist,
minouette, there's nothing wrong with "crafty" but with a title like "art crawl" I expected more ART and less stuffed animals made out of Canadian Tire socks...).
One of the few standouts was photographer Jon Muldoon who crawls through water systems throughout Southern Ontario and photographs them with eerie lighting and Photoshop effects to create fascinating, alien industrial worlds living just beneath our feet. If I wasn't already taken, I'd hunt him down and have his two-headed love child. I can't post his photos here but PLEASE follow the link to
his website. He also takes breathtaking photos of shorelines at night and (M. you'll love this) old typewriters. His photoblog is also beautiful. I never thought that I'd meet someone who finds decay and industrial utility as gorgeous as I do.
