I was right.

At work, our stereo system has been slowly spiralling downwards for about 2 years or so. The most recent event was the sudden clicking off of sound from the receiver/tuner while the CD player or radio was still playing. I told FF that I thought that it was a problem with the receiver outputs to the speakers.

As he normally does, FF chose to ignore my opinion and instead toted the CD player (and eventually, at my request, the receiver) to Bay Bloor Radio for servicing. The B.B.R. guys, in their infinitely cooler-than-thou way, told us that the CD player was the problem and not repairable. The receiver was fine. FF got the o.k. from H.O. to buy a new CD player, and he brought it back yesterday and set it up. After reversing the speaker wires and trying to plug the CD player into a tape input jack (give me strength!), he got the stereo to work, but it still clicked out.

I said "Frank, it's the receiver.".

Intrepid FF, ever determined NOT to take the blame for forking over $399.99 of the H.O.'s money for the unnecessary replacement of our CD player, called B.B.R. and explained the problem to them. They, in their cooler-than-thou-don't-blame-us tone of voice, claimed that it was the speaker wires - they were oxidized and needed replacing. FF bought new speaker wire and he and Bob spent the better half of this afternoon rewiring the store. They turned on the stereo, and..... it clicked out.

I screamed "Frank, IT'S THE DAMNED RECEIVER!!!!!!!!".

FF called B.B.R. AGAIN. They said that it was now the speakers; they needed to be replaced. FF was about to go out and price speakers when I said "What are you gonna tell the S.M. if we replace the speakers, speakerwire, CD player, and it STILL clicks out?"

He's now pricing receivers instead. I dunno what he's gonna tell the S.M. about all of this.

I told ya so.

stupidity, fluevog
