Kate and I went for a long walk today... well, long for us. Something like four miles. There aren't many options for pretty walks around here, so we really had two choices: North or South. North had more trees, so we chose that. This meant wandering across a spur for the M4, past an abbey, up through Burnham to Taplow, before circling back down to Taplow Rail where I opted for a train for most of the two miles back home. We had planned to find a path that runs down near the Jubilee River, but our map and the landscape happened to disagree about this possibility. As we actually live in the landscape, it won the argument and we didn't see the river. We did, however, see a rectory with entrances decorated in a faintly hippie-ish way (tiles depicting people, pottery embedded in concrete, hub-cap signs, and a rainbow colored, quote boasting gate). We also saw a horse-drawn carriage twice, once waiting outside a church and once with the bride and groom riding in it while it held up innumerable vehicles. The ramble through Taplow was nice because we were able to enjoy one of the pastimes Mom and I used to engage in: house watching. It sounds more creepy than it is. It's really simply looking at and commenting on interesting houses as you walk by. It doesn't involve night goggles, viewing platforms, or walk-talkies. Taplow has an abundance of beautiful old houses, so it was pleasant to walk through the village and examine them. Strangely, it also has a large apartment complex that looks like something out of a sixties magazine; boxy, white and black, and very out of place.
Um, other than that, not much to tell. We joked about pigeon quarries, saw many horses, possibly trespassed due to inaccurate maps, and had a nice afternoon together. Kate has
pics if you want to see.
Update after actually looking at the pictures: I'm not sure why Kate posted so many of me...
