A few items to report:
1. Saturday was not my lucky day. I was riding to work and had pulled into a length of roadside where there weren’t parked cars (to avoid blocking traffic). Unfortunately, as I was reaching the end of that space, I didn’t decide fast enough whether to stop and wait for some cars to pass or to pull out ahead of those cars. So I ended up running into the back corner of a parked car. I don’t remember anything from impact to when a man asked me my name and cleaned up my face. Scary, huh? Anyway, he drove me to work, a medic that is posted at the building looked me over, and my life went on. The left side of my face got pretty scraped up, but it’s all shallow and healing fairly fast. Got a black eye and some nice bruises on my left elbow and knee. I keep getting headaches, but my face doesn’t hurt. All in all, I was really lucky.
2. Flight was loooong. 10 hours to Fort Worth/Dallas (why there?) and 3.5 hours or so to SeaTac. I got window seats on both flights, which I normally hate. However, on the second flight, it was kind of nice because we flew over what I think was Colorado. It was beautiful to look down on the mountains and miles of people-less space as the light faded. Everything was this lovely misty, pale blue with dark spreads of bare rock or maybe trees. Very calming.
3. So now I’m home. We stayed at a friend’s last night because Mom’s power was still out. Anita was an incredible host, totally relaxed. I didn’t feel like I was imposing because she neither hovered nor did whatever ungracious hosts do. She just told me to make myself at home and went about her life. Very nice, easy-going woman. Now we’re back in Mom’s place and it’s great to be home. There’s a feeling about this house that I find hard to describe. A feeling of comfort and solidness . . . Anyway, I’m just glad to be here.
So that’s my news. A few notes:
Kristine and Levi - Congratulations! I hear it went beautifully and I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there. I want to see zillions of pictures.
Darren - I will be at Krystal’s New Year’s party. Thank you for the offered ride and I would love to tag along with you.
Everybody - I will be up in Seattle starting Thursday night as well as being at the New Year's party, so one way or another I should see most people. I can’t wait to see everyone. Talk to you all soon. (:
