Thanks to
Miss Chief for reminding me about this topic.
I went to a block party yesterday in NorthEast Philly. Ok, so may be they weren't "whores" just yet, but they were "whores in the making". Nevermind the fact that they had some 4 year old lip-synching to Black Eye'd Peas' "My Humps" and everyone thought it was cute ... but they had a "game" where the girls had to prance up and down this "runway" in their bathing suits to songs like ZZ Top's "Legs". I can't tell you how bad I felt for the chubby girl who was about 14, walking around in men's basketball shorts wearing a t-shirt that read "My Other Body Is In The Shop". Ugh!! Anyone who knows me, knows that this makes me want to vomit. It doesn't help that earlier that morning, my roommate and I were having a conversation about the nakedness of women all over MTV. Sex sells, but to me, it's getting old and frustrating. I can blame them for the fact that despite the fact that I'm skinny, I'm not conifident about certain parts of my body. The "ladies" on the screen start taking their clothes off withing 10 seconds of the video and are pretty much naked by the end. Oh, and there's A LOT of tummy shots. I know that I haven't said anything new here, but I just wanted to say it. And just last week, when I was home, my sisters were telling me about how they went clothes shopping for the kids and when they go to the underwear section, they couldn't believe what they saw. Thongs, padded bras, lace bras, etc. What the hell?!
Someone please stop the insanity! It's impossible for me to swoop down and save every little innocent girl ... so step up to the plate and give your little girls a hug and a t-shirt.
So thanks to
Laura for saving me, Dan and my friends from any further objectification of little girls. It was great to finally meet you!
