Waste of Paint

(title; a Bright Eyes song I'm listening to, nothing to do with the ramble that's posted)

I recently read an article about Hugh Laurie, the actor who plays House of the TV series of the same name.

I was walking around my Gamma's house when I saw a magazine cover with him on it. He's got his arms over his head like he's shielding himself from this rush of water pouring down, his eyes are set focused straight on the reader; underneath in yellow letters he proclaims "I Fear Making a Fool of Myself".

I stopped when I saw that.

What do most people think of actors? Or of stars, to be more precise? Sure they all have their mental issues... but they're not afraid to play a character in front of people or dive into the brain and soul of someone who might not even exist for a show. Most of the time they're portrayed as class clowns, divas, eccentric, cocky, and popular. They're not 'afraid to make fools of themselves' because they're 'too confident, else why would they be actors'?

Almost hungrily, I reached for the paper and flipped quickly through the pages until my eyes found the article. I read and read and read.

Apparently, Hugh Laurie is a very strange actor. Here was someone who described himself as 'very english' (he is english btw) because he always thinks that people are laughing behind his back and that they think he's an idiot. He says he has a hard time recognizing fun, that he's pessimistic, that he hates complements because they throw him off-guard. And, most striking, he said that his vivid fantasy life--which ties into acting, of course--developed from not being able to find his place.

Um. Wow. Is he like my british-much-older-man twin or something??

Here I thought I was an oddity as an actor... hm. I guess there is the remote possibility that I can be worked with in Hollywood. Here's something for you; if that's 'normal british', I think I was born in the wrong country! My mom always said I was.... Not that I mind *snuggles America* I think London is an awful place (I have been there btw) though Scotland is charming as anything.
