As part of their time-honored tradition of making really ugly cars, Pontiac put out the
Aztek a number of years ago. You used to see them everywhere, and when spotted, the consistently produced one of two reactions from people. If you were human, your response was "My goodness, that's ugly". If you were Rosie O'Donnell, you went out and bought one.
Either way, someone in marketing convinced Pontiac to produce them in model years 2001-2005, putting nearly a quarter-million of them on the road. And yet with that ... I don't think I've seen one in maybe two years or so. Where have they gone? Surely something that's as much of an eyesore as that ill-conceived vehicle can't just blend into the background over time. I can't imagine how I could possibly become desensitized to such atrocities perpetrated against sheet metal. Yet I find it hard to imagine that people would simply stop driving them while they still have many miles left in them simply because they realized how ugly they were. I mean, really, you're the type of person who was not instantly revolted the first time you saw it, you're also not the type of person who will abandon it when you realize just how uncool it is, either, right?
And so I ask, where have all the Azteks gone?
