school has started, and i am a week into my last semester of college. it seems unreal to say that. i can't imagine life without school. i have been in school for nine months out of the year since i was 6. now i have come to the end, and i don't really know how to react. i am glad that i have accomplished something like this, but at the same time nervous about finding a job, and living in the real world as an adult that people will have expectations of.
i guess i will give a recap of my first week.
the drive to pocatello started on Friday the 24th. everything was loaded into the car, the tank full of gas, and the coolant tube newly replaced. everything seemed to be in it's place, and i was on my way to make the drive i have made hundreds of times in the past 5 years. i got on the highway, set the cruise control at 80 and sat back for the ride. 15 miles outside of Burley (about and hour outside of Pocatello) my speedometer begins losing speed. i step on the gas to compensate and nothing happens. as i lose even more speed, i pull over to the side of the highway and the car immediately dies. i let it cool off and try it again. same reaction. i panic for five minutes, call home, and call AAA. the lady asks me where i am, and i tell her I-84 heading towards Pocatello from Boise. she asks if that is east or west, and then i realize she is not anywhere near idaho. i tell her East, and she asks for landmarks, or mile markers, or a sign saying millage. i have none of these things. the best i can tell her is i am by a corn field outside of Burley on the side of the road. this is a really helpful landmark in southeast idaho. corn field, on I-84, outside of Burley.... i could have been anywhere. she does a lot of typing and finds a tow truck in burley and sends him over. 30 mins later, a tow truck pulls up and an 88 year old man begins to pull my car on to the bed of the truck. he was 88 years old, i am not joking. it was a silent ride to the mechanics. at the mechanics shop, i was asked questions i couldn't answer (because i don't speak car), and then told my car was not fixable. i no longer had a car. luckily, i have family that lives outside of burley who came and picked me up and took me to pocatello. we had dinner, and they helped me move in to my apartment. it was really nice to see them. the last time i saw them was for my Grandma's funeral. it's funny that the only time i see that side of the family is under crisis. a good thing to come out of this ordeal was seeing family, and i get a new Subaru Forrester. it should be pretty awesome.
i now live in an apartment with my friend Katie and Chris (big chris, Hercules, take your pick). it is a good arrangement, we get along really well, and none of us are particularly messy, or picky about things. this weekend should lend to some roommate bonding.
last night i went to a concert by a band called Poison Cherry. if they ever throw a concert near you, GO! it was amazing. they are an 80's hair band cover group, and they totally rock. they played all the classics, and Chris, his friends and i rocked out the best we could considering the awkwardness of no one else enjoying the band as much as we did.
that is my first week so far, i went to classes, hung out with the roomies, and even did a little school reading. i am hoping for a good semester.
