here are some stories from my road trip. we drove to Vegas (a 9 hour drive) and came onto the chaos that is Vegas around 3 o'clock. there were millions of people swarming around, and most of them had one thing in common. NASCAR. yes, nascar had a race in Vegas the very weekend we arrived. for the next two days i pushed my way passed, rubbed elbows, and shared elevators with drunk, excited, sweaty rednecks. Vegas is almost overwhelmingly vibrant. there is so much to look at. all the neon lights pull you in every direction. for my first gambling experience, i sat down at a video black jack machine and fed it $20. i won my first hand and excitedly hit the deal button. or so i thought. i had not hit the deal button. i hit the Max Bet button, which was conveniently placed a fat fingers distance from the deal button. in a panic i searched for a cancel button, or a no! no! no! i didn't mean to do that button. for some reason they don't have those on this particular machine. i sat for a bit with tears welling in my eyes, as i kiss my 21 dollars goodbye. i play the hand, because i will not give up with out a fight. i got blackjack! i won! i was really far too excited for winning 42 dollars. it was a good time though.
i drove on a California freeway. a proud moment in the life of Katie Leoni, girl afraid of freeways.
i saw Body Worlds
http://www.bodyworlds.com/index.html. this is a really cool exhibit. if you ever get a chance, see it. it took all my power not to touch the bodies.
And then we drove 16 hours home to pocatello. it was long, but enjoyable nonetheless. on the way we saw beautiful landscape, rich red rock, the northern most area of the grand canyon, desolate desert, mountains, cacti, a half of a deer torso with a trail of blood that jumped out at us as it entered our headlights, countless bad drivers, and many a truck stop.
all in all a good trip.
pictures can be seen on my facebook album, and there will be more added after this weekend hopefully.
