I started a job that sucked my soul out of me almost literally. I was working Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and every other Wednesday from 6 am to 6:30 pm. That means I was getting up at 4:30 am, getting home at 7:30 pm, and going to bed at 10 pm at the latest. So my days off were spent almost entirely in catching up on everything I wasn't able to do and missed on the days I was working.
I got let go the week before christmas. Unemployment shouldn't be an issue, I'm just waiting until Monday to file. The service representative on the phone told me that if I waited for the fiscal quarter to end, they could wrap my California wages into my Washington wages (filing with Washington state) and I'll get a little bit more money. She also told me what I need to do when I call to make sure that happens. VERY helpful woman.
But, seriously, if may have paid well ($14 an hour but 4 hours a day was overtime so more like $18) but that job was fucking awful. I was already looking for new work at the time that I was let go.
Got some nice presents from Dad and Robi for christmas. Slim christmas this year all around. But managed to do a nice dinner of ham, roasted garlic mashed potatos, and herb and butter carrots. Paulie picked up some champagne and rolls. Mini eclairs for desert.
The day after christmas I was feeling all sorts of ick, so we went and picked up some decongestants. Two hours after I took one my ear started hurting. It was after 7 pm so I figured I'd just wait until the next day and try my luck at finding a walk-in open on a sunday. An hour and a half later and I'm in excruciating pain. I actually start to hear the little "rip rip" sounds in my ear. Dan says, "if it hurts so bad, why don't you go to the ER?" When he came out of the bathroom I said, "Would you drive me?" Another hour and a half later and I'm being given a referal to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist and medication for a perforated ear drum and infection. That was 0 to nuclear ear infection in an hour and a half. Seriously. WTF ear? The part I'm most concerned about is it's my right ear. The last time I had a hole in it (from a tube) it wouldn't close on it's own. They had to do two grafts to close it; the first one didn't take.
Thank goodness for welfare programs at hospitals. The medication was still expensive (almost $200 out of pocket,) but I should be able to get the rest of it taken care of by the hospital. Including my follow up appointment with the specialist and any further care that may be needed.
And so, with that last bit of suckitude, I very heartily bid farewell to 2009. And spit on it's grave.
