Someday, she thinks, when she and Castle-
She pauses.
At what point did if become when?
She looks back over the months and years and can't pinpoint one moment. It wasn't only the haunted look in his eyes when he said "I thought you were hit," nor just the moment that an undercover ruse became a desperate and not entirely unexpected attempt to drink one another in.
It happened gradually, as his responses changed from "anytime" to "always," as he became the friend she could turn to in any difficulty.
And somehow, the inevitability of when no longer frightens her.
