Today, after fixing yet another spyware-infested computer for another customer, I went to Quincy to check out Sears' closeout deals. I found a Yamaha YPT-200 keyboard priced at $49.95, which is an excellent price for a MIDI keyboard. After the salesman on duty finished handling the customers in front of me, I asked about the keyboard. The salesman told me that they'd sold out of that keyboard, and that the display model was the only one left. I asked if he'd sell it to me. He said he couldn't, because they no longer had a box, manual, or AC adapter for it.
Now, mind you, I am a knowledgeable person when it comes to power supplies, and I know that Yamaha is real good about offering manuals for free download, so I asked if I could talk with the manager. The salesman called for the manager on the intercom, and about 10 minutes later, the manager showed up. I explained the situation to him, and let him know that I was seriously interested in the keyboard.
After thinking about it for a few seconds, he replied, "I can sell it to you as-is for $29.95."
So, after sales tax, I got me a Yamaha MIDI keyboard for $32.31. My next stop was Radio Shack, where I got a proper AC adapter for $19.38.
TOTAL FOR A MIDI KEYBOARD: $51.69
Now I just need to get a USB-MIDI adapter, and I'll be ready to compose.
BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID.
