Done!

"Wŏ de mā*, we did it..."

The engine core started spinnin', and then it started glowin', and then it started hummin'. And then, of course, Kaylee and I started jumpin' up and down for joy and basically acting like a couple of fools. But that was just fine by us folks here on the ship, since that meant Serenity was up and running and ready to fly again.

Giving Kaylee a hug, I stepped back to once again admire our magnificent repairing handiwork and grinned. She looked about to say something, and I raised a hand to keep her from having to.

"I remember, I remember. Keep the old girl throttled up to 25 percent for another ten minutes, and then bring her back down to idle. I got it."

I patted the slip of paper in my shirt pocket.

"Got this, too. We'll pass it on amongst the other once they return from whatever fabulous adventures that we are not having right now."

Heading for the bridge, I was still smiling. For once, I did't give a damn that I hadn't gotten to get off Serenity. There were more important things to do right here, and me and Kaylee, we were the only ones who could do them. Plus, we'd been through Isis Station before, and it wasn't like hitting dirt on Persephone. I'd just as soon be flying, thank you very much.

Slipping into my chair, I flicked a few switches over my head, then flicked on the radio, broadcasting wide to all of the crew.

"Serenity crew, this is Wash. We are in good health and ready to fly. See you home soon."

I leaned back, and laced my fingers behind my head, thinking about how best to put my own bet into the Mal/Inara pool.

((*"mother of God"))

((Go ahead and work Wash's announcement into your posts when you need to get back to the ship. *L*))
