It's a Gatherin'

"Excuse me, Captain, but.. I've suddenly lost my appetite."

"Tā mā de," I whispered quietly, but quickly. Inara was gettin' up from the gorram table and walkin' away from what was, without a doubt, going to be the most interesting conversation we'd ever had.

Now, all right, I supposed that a genteel restaurant-- hell, a public place of any kind-- wasn't exactly the right place to be havin' this particular discussion, and I was right as rain with that. But I was not right with her turnin' tail and not only runnin' off, but leavin' me with the check!

I reached into my jacket and unfolded a few bills of the hard cash I still had on hand. Wasn't about to go yellin' after Inara, though, 'cuz that would just be embarassin' all around, and we honestly couldn't handle much more. The money on the table, I trotted out after Inara, who was already makin' good headway on me.

Now that we were out in the open and weavin' our way through the crowd, all bets were off.

"Inara! Inara, will ya slow down for a fella?"

I finally caught up with her as she turned a corner.

"Look, I get that this is a sensitive subject. What do you say we go back to Serenity and talk this--"

Inara was lookin' away from me, not payin' a lick of attention.

"What?"

Followin' her eyes, I found what she was lookin' at. We were all of two or three yards from our diminutive old acquaintance Badger, what appeared to be a couple of his hired hands, and Jayne.

"Well, now... ain't this a blissful reunion?"

((Open to Inara, Badger, Jayne and anyone else headed this way.))
