I've Picked Up Something Icky (Also: One Incredible Rec)

Some kind of virus or cold hit me like a freight train last night: swollen sinuses, sneezing and coughing, chills, the works. I loaded up on decongestant and vitamin C and such and went to bed early, but a night of sleep did nothing to help. This morning I'm feeling like something scraped off the bottom of somebody's shoe, and I have an outrageous headache. I also can't get down anything other than milky tea or coffee. I choked down a few bites of bagel, but my stomach was pretty clear in its warnings, so for the time being, I'm sticking with liquids.

Yuck.

I'm bundled up now on the couch, surrounded by kleenex and blankets and two feline heating pads who have apparently decided that their mission is to keep my feet warm. Thankfully, I have one of those "moist heat" sinus masks, so I've nuked that and used it to take the edge off the headache a bit. It took away enough of the pain that I don't feel completely stupid, so yay for that. ~loves sinus mask~ If only the rest of the symptoms could be curbed so easily...

I was going to write a more comprehensive weekend wrap-up, but suffice it to say that my team crushed its rival (YAY!!), my Dad and I had a good conversation and reached an understanding, and I got plenty of writing done yesterday before being flattened by the freight train. So, on the whole, a very good weekend, despite the inauspicious start--well, and ending with sickness. But still: the Spartans beat the Wolverines! That alone is enough to make a weekend golden. :D

Before I go back to whimpering and wallowing and feeling pathetically sorry for myself, I have to mention one incredible, fantastic, beautiful art rec from the Snarry Art Games: What I Did on My Summer Vacation, a combination of artwork and vidding by Rana (also known as Littleblackbow). (The story's very PG, but be warned that if you're at work, there is music on the video. Perfect music for the vid, but maybe not something your boss/coworkers would appreciate.)

Honestly, I can't recommend this strongly enough, because it's so much more than great drawing. It's wonderful and moving, the perfect blend of art, music and storytelling, and I think everybody who likes HP or Snape even a little bit ought to watch it. THIS is the epilogue we wanted to see, and these are convincingly mature characters I can believe in. There are so many great details (Snape in glasses, eeee!), but the real narrative journey is all about genuine emotion: grief and regret, redemption and longing, friendship and love of all varieties, from the parental to the romantic. If you like hope and healing, if you like Snape, if you like a good story: watch this vid. Even if you don't like Snarry. Even if you don't like slash. WATCH THIS VID.

You'll be glad you did.
