If it's any consolation at all I'm unable to write when I've been doing a lot of administriva (when I was creating my story archive, for example.) The two competing sides of my brain just didn't work together very well at all.

Oh, wasn't the 4x100 amazing? What a close finish! My younger son, who is a swimmer, is comparing his time to the finalists and realizing that his isn't so very different. It's been terribly inspiring to him.

I think you're on to something about admin work not being conducive to creative thought. I gave myself a break after all the Master List work yesterday, and woke up today with a much friendlier muse. In fact, I got a whole story idea mapped out and half-written, which is very good.

It's not for the stories I was working on, of course, but I'll be happy with what I can get.

The 4 x 100 was incredible! I don't remember seeing another swimming race that was quite so exciting. That's fabulous for your son, too. I'm glad it was inspiring to him! If his time isn't so different, then I think he could have a bright swimming career ahead of him.

You must be quite relieved, even if it made me laugh when I read that your inspiration wasn't for any of your currently in progress stories.

My son won't pursue any sort of competitive swimming career. He doesn't particularly like athletic competition ... the inherent message of superiority. He just likes to go out and do his best, and try to better his own performance. I'm rather proud of him for that attitude actually.

I am relieved, although isn't that always the way? Well, as we all know, you can't always get what you want. *g*

Bravo for your son! What an exceptionally mature attitude to have. I'm terribly impressed. I quite agree that the greatest competition is in the effort to continually improve oneself.

I know exactly what you mean. I wrote slash this morning (and I'm not a slashy sort of girl)! I've never written it before, but this one just sort of happened. I've forwarded it to its recipient, and depending on her reaction, it might see the light of day. Although I'll be nail biting until after I find out what she thinks.

We're very proud of the offspring, especially as he has this attitude at fifteen, and his new career goal seems to be lifeguarding. He absolutely loves it.

Slash! You wrote slash? ~is awestruck~ I'd be very interested to read it. What pairing, if I might ask? I know that it's a very vulnerable thing, writing something that one isn't accustomed to writing.

Your offspring sounds like a fine young man indeed. Clearly, he's been raised by some very good parents. ;-)

I did, and I've even posted links to it on my journal. The recipient liked it, so I was emboldened to let it peer out from under the rock. Part of my hesitation is that it wasn't only slash, but it's not a romance by any stretch of the imagination. It's short (740 words,) but it's, IMHO, very plausible. It's Snape/Lupin, and it's essentially a book five outtake.

As for Sprout #2, we're very proud indeed, and thank you.
