30 days of yay. This was number 23. And I am sliding in at the last moment, Indiana Jones-style, but it has been a long day, so this is the best I could do. *g*
Yayful Things:
*There were quite a lot of people wearing purple on campus today, students and faculty and staff. (As I said in my earlier post, I was wearing purple today in memory of Doug Smith, a friend of mine from high school who is gone but never forgotten.) And at the concert I attended this evening, all of the musicians and conductors, including the pep band, were wearing purple ribbons. Awesome.
*Younger Brother's first concert of the season was tonight, and I got to attend. It was the annual Bands Preview (sort of a "coming attractions" for the real season to come), and it was a great time listening to great music. The Pep Band ended the evening by rocking a Lady Gaga medley (and maaaaaybe I was dancing in my chair for that one a bit, possibly *g*), but for me the highlight of the evening was hearing the Wind Symphony pull off Michael Daugherty's
Niagara Falls. It's a spectacular piece to hear (and see) live, all kitsch and film noir and stunningly precise percussion, and Younger Brother acquitted himself very, very well. I know he's been working his butt off on this piece, especially on one section that has four keyboard percussionists playing an insanely fast, wickedly complicated sequence in perfect unison. The hard work paid off, and the effect was impressive. I'm so proud of him!
*Left the concert to find that the wind and rain and cold had moved in... but that just makes me appreciate my warm PJs and blankets and hot cocoa all the more. ~snuggles and sips~
