Positively Brilliant

So... there were a lot of great things, large and small, making me smile today. For instance:

*Woke up to find a chubby, purring Otto cat curled up next to me, all snuggly and cute and affectionate. Good way to begin the day.

*Had a great workout this morning, which left me feeling all glowing and energized afterward. I'm now doing the treadmill, weights and yoga, and while this can feel like a chore some days, the days like today make it more than worth it.

*Painted my nails metallic acid green last night. Not only did it come out well, but they happened to match the exact shade of my sweater today.

*Beautiful weather and a nearly snag-free commute to work. Sunshine, blue skies, crisp autumn air, driving along in the car, singing/bopping along with Muse to Knights of Cydonia? When that's your morning, you know it's going to be a good day.

*Psychic music player strikes again. At the one traffic back-up I did hit this morning, the song playing just happened to have this amusingly fitting chorus: "And I'm waaaaaaaaiting paaaaaaaaatiently, waaaaaaaaiting for the sign..." Instead of feeling irked, I just had to smile at that.

*Great discussions in all of today's classes, with better-than-usual participation. Not sure if it's something in the water or the realization that midterms are around the corner (~amused eye twinkle~), but the overall effect definitely made for some lively (and interesting) debates.

*Wound up next to a display of Halloween socks at Target. I love crazy socks, and I love Halloween, so I might have audibly squeed. Possibly. Anyway, I brought home a pair of black knee socks with skulls on them. :D

*Today's experiment in Tasty Healthy Cooking was a success worth duplicating: broiled chicken in a Moroccan-inspired marinade, with a farro salad (with sweet onion, tomato, chives, garlic, balsamic vinegar and olive oil) and thinly-sliced cucumbers with a bit of Greek yogurt. I'm having way too much fun trying to find the sweet spot between "good for you" and "good to eat."

*My order from Amazon was sitting on my porch when I got home, despite their estimate that it wouldn't arrive until October 10. Which means that, amongst other things, my new copy of David Bowie's Hunky Dory is here! (You don't want to know what happened to the old one. It's long gone.)

*Noel Fielding's sudden explosion of Tweets = an endless source of amusement. Bafflement, too, but the amused kind. *g*

But by far the best thing--and the thing I'm naming for day two of the Positivity Meme--is the following news: Dad had his check-up with the surgeon today, and as of Monday, he's been cleared to resume driving AND work. There will be restrictions, obviously, and between us and his staff, we'll be watching him like a hawk to be sure he's not putting undue stress on himself, but... this is huge. Enormous. And he's absolutely over the moon about it.

I'm so happy that finally, months after this odyssey began, he has the opportunity to start getting back to something approaching Real Life.

positive things meme, dad, all things that are good, real life, project peacock
