I am ridiculously cheerful today

And I don't care who knows it. The sky is overcast, the weather is cold, the rain has been pouring for most of the day, sinuses are being their usual diva selves... but who cares? Life is good. Life is very good.

Reasons why life is good )

music, real life

Mr LB, who works at a local music store, told me today that the DSO might be going under. Heard anything about that?

Have a great weekend, and yes, won't it be fun to revisit a lot of great SSHG soon? Can't wait!

No, I hadn't heard that! Wow, I really hope it isn't true, because the DSO is one of the oldest symphonies in the U.S., and they have really premier facilities. I know that the economic downturn is keeping them from doing things they would like to do (the reassembly and installation of the pipe organ, hiring extra musicians to fill out some of the sections), but I honestly haven't noticed them doing anything that signaled imminent closure to me. If they're in trouble, it's not because of attendance, which has been very strong. Last night's audience was packed in to the rafters.

Don't know about the rest of the weekend yet, but last night was wonderful! I hope yours is excellent, too.

I envy you the concert actually. I love the Barber Concerto. Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to you, too!

I also enjoy the Barber concerto, and it was very pretty last night, but I have to admit that something about Salerno-Sonnenberg's playing left me feeling oddly cold. It was technically beautiful (esp. the 3rd movement, the in moto perpetuo one), and the audience sure seemed to be impressed, but I actually found myself struggling to find the emotional connection to the music--not usually a problem for me.

But it was still gorgeous and abslutely worth hearing live. I mean, this is just me quibbling. *g*
