I spent two hours making my normal 25 minute commute from Ft. Worth to Denton. I gnashed my teeth, thought about crying, got rerouted countless times, and drove my pour Volkswagen through water all the way up past the undercarriage as a sewer smell crept in through the vents after all my means into my side of town got shut off by high water. I made it out of the neighborhood and the VW sputtered and stalled out once, but I got her started again and made it to the square before looked at a 3' deep lake that is normally an intersection before I gave up on going home.

I did what any good stranded hedonist would do: I bought a used paperback and walked to the bar to drink beer until the flood waters subsided. And I even managed to get cohorts to come out with me, for the Liz Can't Get Home Drinking Party.

I crashed at Nic's because his apartment is on higher ground. When I got to my apartment a good sized portion of the gravel from my parking lot had moved to my carport and the yard around the back of the house, and the drainage creek behind my apartment, which normally is empty or has just a drizzle of water, was 4 or 5 feet deep and moving very fast.
