(FFX-2-related; rest assured, there's no major plot spoilers ahead)
I finished FFX-2 yesterday. Well, "finish" is a bit of a misnomer, since I only got 70% completion... but I did fight the final bosses, and see the ending, so technically I finished it.
So what did I do today, while on the bike? Loaded up a certain save file and started a "New Game Plus" in FFX-2. I missed a lot of missions during my first play through (especially in Chapter One), which caused me to miss the Mascot sphere, as well as tons of other stuff. What's dope about the "New Game Plus" feature is that I start a whole new game-- with all of my collected dresspheres, learned abilities, items, sphere grids, and other goodies. In fact, the only things I lost were my levels (all the girls are back at Level 1) and treasure spheres (noooo!). I kept all twenty-four Al Bhed dictionaries, and got the last two during a certain story event early on in the replay-- getting all the dictionaries is a feat I'd never done in FFX, so I'm happy that I finally got them all here. However, even if I didn't get those last two, I wouldn't have had much trouble with interpreting ;)
Strange as it may sound, this lighthearted, slightly cheesy Final Fantasy is shaping up to be one of my favorite games in the series. It's highly nonlinear (always both a plus and a rarity in a single-player console RPG), and the battle system kicks ass-- like a jazzier version of FFV's Jobs. The story's pretty sparse, but all the branching paths, substories, and sidequests make up for it. The music is catchy, but not too annoying, and as I mentioned before in Follow Through a loooong time ago, the game features one of the Coolest FMVs Ever. Oh, and the cool characters. Like Paine. And Rikku, as always. And Gippal. And, hell, even Nooj.
So yeah, I'm not done with this game, not by a long shot. To do that, I need to get all the Crimson Spheres this time. And the Alchemist, Trainer, Mascot, and Paine's Special dresspheres. And get past Cloister 80 in the Via Infinito. And...
