So I had sinus surgery yesterday. I'm more calling it a sinus procedure because really it wasn't surgery; it just involved general anesthesia (which I was really, really okay with; I don't want to be awake when they're vacuuming out my head). It went fine, and Morgan and I were home by like 11am I think. I pretty much slept all of yesterday.
Today I am doing much better, though, and have had tea which they told me I couldn't have yesterday--I couldn't eat or drink anything before the procedure, obviously, and then they told me I couldn't have hot drinks after it. I was very upset about it, but I called this morning to schedule my follow-up and they told me I could have tea so long as it wasn't boiling hot. I'm also not supposed to be blowing my nose that often but I am so incredibly congested right now (this is also to be expected). I can take Afrin if I need it, so I will likely do that when Morgan brings me some. But the anesthesia I think has worn off, and I'm not in enough pain to need the pain meds they gave me, so those are pluses.
I have a follow up on Wednesday, and if I run into any serious problems or whatever before then I am to call them or whatever, but really the worst of it right now is that I'm just incredibly congested and it sucks. They didn't tell me whether or not I could take Sudafed but odds are I probably shouldn't. Unfortunately Morgan thought they gave me Afrin to go home with but it doesn't look like they did, and I'm not allowed to drive until tomorrow, so I have to wait for him to get home before I can take it.
Although since writing that I got curious, so I poked around on Amazon's Prime Now app and cobbled together a list of random items that met the delivery charge, including a box of green tea bags, disinfectant wipes I'll bring into work, bagel chips, and Afrin. And I think bananas. They should all be here between 12 and 2pm, so we'll see. Prime Now has an...odd assortment of items and I have to wonder how they figure out what to stock.
edit to add: my stuff arrived right when they said it would, and I have taken the Afrin and it dislodged some seriously epic gunk, so now I can breathe through my nose again. My head aches, but I think that's either dehydration or anesthesia hangover.
Meanwhile! We've transitioned Buddy to frozen raw food one meal a day. He now gets the Honest Kitchen dehydrated mix (add warm water, stir, let sit for a few minutes) for breakfast, and he now gets a chicken and salmon based frozen raw food in the evening. The problem with the frozen raw is we have to let it thaw before we give it to him, and he can smell it, and he gets very anxious and confused as to why we're not feeding him *now*. Then he wolfs down the food.
Also, I think I've mentioned his diva-like behavior before, but in case you missed it, he's now picky about the treats he gets at Paddywack. The dog walkers take him to Mill Creek Town Center for a walk most days, and they take him into Paddywack where the staff spoils him, but he's very picky about the kind of treats he'll accept. Some of them he just turns up his nose, like "oh, please." C said today he tried a frozen goat milk treat, though, and liked it, but he wouldn't eat the red meat. Just the goat's cheese (or milk I forget which) and freeze-dried chicken.
We had thought about switching him to a prey raw model, where you feed the dog actual parts of animals and so on rather than a pre-mixed food, but we're holding off on that because a) it's a lot of work and b) we don't have the freezer space for everything it would require. When (I am insisting this is a when) we get a second freezer in the garage, we can consider doing it, but right now we don't have the space for like 60lbs of frozen chicken and fish and beef for our dog. Failing that, though, the Northwest Naturals is great--he absolutely loves it, and it has different options for feeding and a lot of flavors. We went for the chicken+salmon because I figured that a) it's lower fat than the beef, and he's still a bit pudgy and b) I know he's eaten the chicken when Paddywack has offered him treats, but he didn't always like the beef. I've given him the freeze-dried lamb treats, too, but for meals we figured we'd start with something a bit more mild and see how he does.
(I already know where the freezer is going to go, and there's both room for it and an outlet in that area. The problem is that right now it's full of boxes that need to go to recycling and until we deal with those, there's no room for a freezer, and I keep not having time or energy to deal with cutting up all the boxes and putting them in the recycle bin. We really need to clear a lot of crap out of the garage, but we keep not doing it.)
However, I am having problems finding the big knuckle bones we like to give him. The company we normally get them from (Northwest Naturals) has discontinued, and the fantastic owner of Paddywack has been looking but has had a hard time finding an alternative. I talked to her today and she does have one supplier, so I've ordered a package and if they come in on Wednesday, great. If not, I asked on one of my pet chat groups on FB and got pointed to a couple good butchers in the area, so maybe tomorrow we'll check out one of those. I've found marrow bones at supermarkets, but I haven't found the big knuckle bones and that's what I'm looking for. I mean, he'll eat the marrow bones, but the knuckle bones last longer.
I did look online and found smoked knuckle bones, but I really want the frozen raw ones. If you know of an online source for frozen dog food and/or treats, though, let me know?
Head is starting to ache. Probably time to take the pain meds and rest for a bit.
