Morgan and I did, in fact, make it to see Steeleye Span at the Triple Door in Seattle last night. We bought the tickets back in, uh, April, and then kind of forgot about it until this past weekend--fortunately we remembered before the concert!
I wasn't entirely certain I was going to make it until about half an hour before we left, because I felt pretty crappy, but Morgan convinced me to vape and I did and it worked great. He had to drive, obvs, but I felt good enough to go.
The theater is one of those where they serve full dinner and dessert and drinks, and there's full service through the show but the doors opened at 6:00pm and the show wasn't until 7:30pm so folks had time to eat. We got there around 6:30 and still had time to have dinner first, and it was lovely. We had amazing seats, although there really weren't any bad seats in the theater from what I could see. We determined we'll happily go back if there's another performer there we want to see.
The show itself was fantastic. I am much less a folk fan than Morgan is, so I was kind of figuring I'd be politely entertained, but it was great and I really got into it. I don't know what my favorite song of the show was but my favorite part was where the lead singer went dancing through the audience during an instrumental piece. That was awesome to watch.
The band's last show was in Vancouver, I think, and apparently their bass player got stopped at the border for some unknown reason, so at 4pm yesterday they found a new bass player who did fantastically well through the show. I really want to know a) why a British folk rock musician would get stopped at the Canadian border and more importantly, b) How do you find a replacement bass player for a fairly unknown band three hours before a show? Is there an underground network of folk rock musicians who wait for this sort of thing? How does this work? Tell me if you know!
We got home a bit before eleven, and pretty much immediately went to bed. I was feeling pretty awful by the time we got home, but I think I've mostly slept it off. Maybe. *eyes head*
Also, YAY SCIENCE this week. My version of the solar system includes Pluto as a planet and this is awesome stuff to learn about. Imagine what we could do if we actually funded space exploration properly! And for those of you saying what point is all this, let me remind you that a very large part of the technological advances we've had in the last mumbleyears are due to the space program. For one example, it's how we came up with laptop computers. I'm really excited to see what we can learn from Pluto and how we can apply it to our own planet!
(PS assholes: Pls stop pretending ours isn't becoming dangerous for humans. We can't really live anywhere else.)
I did read a very scary article about "The Big One", i.e. the quake that will destroy the Puget Sound region when it happens. There's apparently a chance of it happening in the next 50 years. So yay, that's exciting. On the other hand, as I said on FB: Florida will be underwater soon. California HAS no water but also has earthquakes. The Midwest gets tornadoes (and quakes if you're in OK). The Southeast gets hurricanes. The Northeast gets Fimbulwinter and nor'easters and sometimes hurricanes. And as Morgan pointed out, we've known that might happen since we moved out here.
I'm screwed wherever I go, so I might was well enjoy living out here, especially since it's going to be a good place to live during the next while of climate change.
Oh, and there's apparently a new study that says NSAIDs raise risks of heart attack. I was like "Welp, I'm screwed" until I read the article and its comments and determined that there's very little quantifiable data in that study about how much risk you get, at what doses you would increase risk, whether one NSAID is better than another, how this adds to overall risks of heart attack...so eff it, I'll stick with my ibuprofen. Especially since no doctor ever will give me enough oxycodone to stop taking ibuprofen, nor would I want it because at that rate it'd stop working pdq.
Science is awesome, yo.
