because i needed *more* WIPs

Dec 27, 2013 07:04

I emailed my evil wonderful sounding board tigertale7 yesterday and said "Hey, I'm feeling a bit blue, give me writing prompts that aren't horribly angsty please". And she did, and I wrote two snippets that were coffee shop AUs and then another one in which people are university students which has turned into a bit more than a snippet (just over 2200 words so far) which I'm having a lot of fun with and damnit, I really did not need more writing prompts when I have two active WIPs to finish and one stalled WIP to finish eventually and sigh.

But it's a fun change of pace from angst and woe and serious plot, and I could use that right now. I'm not convinced I'll ever post the university AU anywhere but then again I said that about Wild Card, so who the hell knows?

Meanwhile my head is decidedly not happy with my being awake and at work this early in the morning, what else is new? I didn't get a chance to pick up my prescription before work because it was either pharmacy or Starbucks and I decided tea and breakfast was more vital. Maybe I can run out at some point this morning, or just go after I get off shift. I'm not planning on staying past then, since this should be a day off anyway.

Did I mention my sounding board is evil?

It's hard not to flirt with the tall pale British guy, but Jim does his best, or at least attempts to do his best. He doesn't succeed very well, though. "One large chai latte," he calls out, setting it on the counter. The dark-haired Brit goes to get it, and Jim gives him a smile. "Enjoy."

"Thank you," the man says shortly, picking up the go-cup.

"You have a name?" Jim asks while making the next flavored mocha.

"Yes," the Brit says but doesn't elaborate.

Jim waits, then laughs. "Well, I'm Jim," he says. "Nice to see you again, whoever you are."

The man takes a careful sip of his chai, nodding in approval. "My name is Khan," he says finally.

"Interesting name," Jim says. "I'm off shift at four, for the record."

"What am I supposed to do with this information?" Khan asks mildly.

Jim smiles. "Come back and get me? We could have dinner, or a late lunch, or something."

"Perhaps," Khan says.

"Medium caramel mocha," Jim calls, putting it on the counter. "See you at four, Khan."

Khan studies him, but doesn't respond before he leaves.

Jim shrugs. "That could have gone worse."
