So. Sooooooooo I'm going to Pride this Sunday. Never done that before. Jen goes every year; it was the one place she always felt acceptable, regardless of her personal circumstances. I'm not gonna break the tradition

I'm not big on people who base their entire personal identity around their gender, their race or their sexuality. Conversely there's no harm in, every now and then, bringing this part of who you are to the fore and celebrating it with a group of like-minded people.

The Westboro's typically do attend the pride gatherings in Colorado, yes. Jen has informed me that they've had fewer and fewer people in their group each year... whether that is because they're giving up on spending so much time and money for the trip or because they're spreading thinner to be at more events simultaneously, I do not know.

I do get what you're saying... and it makes a lot of sense. I've been trying to convince myself of that sort of viewpoint for a while now. I'm mostly stuck on my social-phobias; that's the root of my issues here, really.

WBC sends a smaller number because they try to hit many locations in a short time span. They are generally quiet and unfortunately rope their kids into holding signs that they can't possibly understand what is being communicated. It's sad ... but I find it to be refreshing to see so many people counter-protesting and reinforcing a loving, accepting and if nothing else, tolerant message.
