I've picked up some freelance voiceover work. I was very surprised to learn there is a second edition of Anatomy and Physiology Revealed CD-ROM coming out and they want me to voice it again. If you're brand new, you will need to put together a demo CD at an area production house like AudioCom, Triple L Productions in Lambertville, or other audio production facility. There are probably ten places in NW Ohio, SE Michigan that do this sort of recording. Or you can try to find someone independent who has a recording studio in his or her house. You'll probably need to get your hands on scripts of some kind --- preferrably commercials with different intensities, like a hard sell "Ed Schmidt" type spot...a medium sell which is most commericals like Kroger or other general narration...and a soft sell like a very low key, high-style jeweler or clothing company. The key to the demos is you can't sound like you're reading copy -- it has to sound conversational, like you're just telling someone about the product. There are probably other samples you could plug in too -- reading aloud a page or two from a book, reading a monologue from a theatrical piece, and if you can do dialects or accents, that's a plus. Studio time averages about $75 an hour, depending on where you go.
