Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

Daylight savings has thwarted me. I thought I was being all super responsible, bouncing out of bed at half past 8 on a Sunday morning, but alas, it was really hald past 7. I think mobiles and clocks around the house should change themselves the way that computers do.

I could have gotten an early start on my Oh-God-When-Will-I-Get-A-Day-Off work, but I'm taking the parents down to Stratford this morning ("We don't see you much now that you're home" guilt guilt etc etc) so why spoil a perfectly fine morning to avoid work?

So instead I'm gonna ramble about the TV shows I've been watching lately, just a little, because I've been thinking about these things a lot. Last night/this morning I caught up on everything so far, except for SPN, so I'm stuck sighing and wistfully looking forward to the week ahead. So, in no particular order and with possible spoilers for the latest aired episodes:

Dollhouse:
How wonderfully adorable is Topher? I think he's like if Xander and Spike had a baby and then dropped it on its head and then abandonned it so it grew up without any real people around. Uh. I maybe always figure out Joss's characters based on how they're combinations of other characters from his shows (and, tbf, I just like Xander/Spike). I loved the latest episode, because man, character development or what? Victor is pretty amazing (I hope we get more of his story soon) and I dunno, I guess I just want to know why each and every one of them is in the Dollhouse. Not just the dolls, the employees too. Cancellation rumours best be false because this deserves to run for a couple of years.

Stargate:Universe
I'm still way sceptical, I'm not gonna lie. Since they said 'Yo, we're cancelling Atlantis and making a new show with a younger, sexier cast' I got all hmph-y about it and vowed I wouldn't watch. Of course, I immediately did as soon as it was out and...well, I understand some of the casting choices now that I didn't before (because they're supposed to be a random group, not specially selected, although I suppose they did all make it to Icarus which means it's not that random). I like how in the first few episodes the military were the sane, reasonable ones, while the civilians were the nutjobs, which wasn't always the case in SGA. I love Eli, and, for that matter, David Blue because I feel he's kinda like how I'd be if I was a fanboying boy (except I'd be uber gay) and I like TJ. And I fucking LOVE Grier. Ugh, I love complex characters like that. As for the rest...I don't like the senator's daughter thing, although I don't know if that's just because of the way her dad acted (epic douche) or the way occasionally they go 'But you're the senator's daughter, you're important' because I can't think of a less important person on that ship. But that might just be me not wanting to be told I should listen to someone just because of who their parents were, when I wouldn't give the time of day to an assholish politician in the first place. Anyways...I'm finding the storyline a little contrived- the moment Destiny headed for the sun I rolled my eyes and said 'So that's how she powers herself and it'll be perfectly fine and they'll think they're all going to die but they won't at all' and the minute the shuttle left the ship I said 'the planet will be habitable but only just and they'll have to do something lame like slingshot around the planet to get back to destiny and risk missing it but a couple of metres' and, well. I like to think that if I could write it it can't be that good TV because, well. Also I find the random sex scenes really out of touch with the whole Stargate thing. Not that I'm opposed to sex on TV or anything, but I think it needs to further the plot, but to me all its done is emphasise that Scott likes to bone girls which cynical old me thinks is an attempt by the assholes in charge (not to be confused with the awesome members of the 'Gate team) to say 'HE'S STRAIGHT! HE'S STRAIGHT! DON'T WRITE SLASHFIC ABOUT HIM FOR THE LOVE OF THE ANCIENTS!!!!!'. On the other hand, Peter has directed and been in an ep, which makes me epically in love with the show because I love him to pieces. I'm gonna watch the show because it's Stargate and I've loved every second i've seen of that show (including bits of the cartoon series) but I doubt I'm gonna fall head over heels for it like I did after my initial doubts about SGA (Look, it wasn't SG1, okay? Who can blame me for being unsure?)

Heroes
I was kinda hmm-ish about it at the start, I'm not gonna lie. I'm still a little bit like that, mostly cos Mohinder isn't back in it yet and I love him and want him to have a really decent storyline this year and to bone Sylar. Or Matt. Or Peter. I'm loving what's happening with Noah, worried that Gretchen is creepier than she appears, and really >:(ing at the carnival people. The deaf girl is fantastic, I'm worried about Hiro completely, and kinda really missing Nathan. But! SYLAR! This promises to be an awesome year for him, no?

Flashforward
I love this show with all my heart. Ignoring the fact it's got motherfucking John Cho being a badass and singing, it's got a great story (I'd heard about the book before, and I'm curious to see how similar to the causes of the blackout it stays), intriguing characters and I need to see the rest of the season now. Not gonna gush, because it's too awesome for words, but if people haven't seen it yet, they should! Also, because I was talking to redandglenda about this yesterday- if you're >:(ing about the lack of gay relationships on TV shows that seem forced, randomly thrown in or nonexistant, FF is a great show, because there's one that not only fits the plot but, I think, furthers it.

Melrose Place
Yeah, yeah. So I only started watching it because of Ashlee. Well, lemme tell you- she is awesome in it. It's really well done, for what it is and, get this- I think it's better than the OC. Which I used to love (apart from Marissa). I'm head over heels for Jonah, because he is that wonderfully faily geek boy who just wants to do good and my god, his GF is unlikeable imo, and also Ella, because she is just fantastic and fabulous and manipulative in that perfectly MP way. And Violet is the right levels of psycho and 'wrap her up in a blanket and give her a puppy'-ness. I can't wait to find out who killed Sydney!

Defying Gravity
Okay, I've not seen episode 13 yet, and the news it's been cancelled is kind of heartbreaking, because I love this show more than anything else right now. It has space! It has geekiness! It has fantastic characters interacting perfectly. And it has a mystery that, okay, might seem kinda out there at first, but is kinda awesome all the same! Cannot wait to find out what happens next, and I wish they weren't cancelling because there's so much that could happen (it's a 6 year mission, goddammit!) and so much character development to make me not want to punch Paula needed. I'm gonna cry my little heart out when I watch the last ep, I just know it.

Um. Wow. That's a lot more shows than I thought I watched. Um. Oops? I am getting work done, I swear.

I'm not even gonna talk about how I'm finally catching up on BSG and am currently at episode 408, desperate to know who the last Cylon is but god help me, I will kill anyone who spoils me. Also I can't understand how anyone can actually like Roslin because I want to punch her in the face constantly, but that might be because Helo and Sharon are two of my favourite characters and I'm still grudgy. But I'm not gonna ramble about that until I get to the end. I'm not. I'm not. (Ohgodit'ssuchanawesomeshowwhydidn'tiwatchitsooner?)

In other news- Rejects gig last weekend was amazing- I need to upload my pics. I crashed the front of my car into a pole. I am officially claiming Jobseekers allowance which makes me feel kinda weird. And I'm about to pay off my car load with a little help from my parents. Woo!

ramble, tv shows
