This is the first year I've had to work retail at Christmas. I've been working for the same store for three years, but for the first two years I was on the overnight receiving team so I didn't have to deal with the crazies. Unless we were open until 12 and we (overnight team) have to start working the truck at 10. But even then it wasn't too bad. I've been dreading working dayside during the Christmas season. Our after Thanksgiving sale was going to be my first really big sale of the season.
It wasn't as bad I thought it would be. Probably because I could only work four hours (gee darn) instead of eight due to a scheduling gaff by managment. I started at 10 instead of the 5:30 I was scheduled for (again, gee darn) and had to park way the hell out there. But I expected that, so it was no big deal. I think that by the time I got there a lot of the crazies had been and gone already. Which was just fine by me. My merchandise - which made up more than half of the ad - was very nearly gone. I probably spent more time back on the dock pulling freight than I did on the floor.
Which was just fine with me.
I know I'll have to work a full eight hours for the next big sale, and so I'll probably be ready to kill by the end of the day, but right now I feel pretty good and I have the weekend off. I'm a little hungry, but dinner's in the oven so it's all good. :)
