Of birthdays and things

Taichou, I hope you liked the gift I gave you. I know it wasn't much and was terribly late, but since you wouldn't tell me anything you like, I hope just having a simple lunch made for you was fine~ ...And I did work my best as always during training, if that's what you wanted to hear also. But you were there, so I guess it's a bit pointless to say ( Read more... )

Oh my, is that how you ask for a favor? And you nag me about my manners?

Consider it a mix of me being worried and you having a bad influence on me.

And what makes you think I'll tag along if there was something in the air making people sick?

...Because who else is going to tell me that what I'm proposing about the situation is completely wrong?

Not my problem. It could a "learning experience" for you or something.

You are seriously wanting to leave me, someone who has only about half a year of experience in deducting these kinds of situations, to take on something that is likely affecting a large portion of the town...by myself? ...I have to admit that you continue to surprise me, Sai-san. I didn't think you had that kind of faith in me.

How else are you supposed to gain experience? So you wouldn't even try if I don't act as chaperon?

I gain experience by you teaching me. That's what a mentor does, isn't it? I'll still try whether you're with me or not, though. Sae is my best friend, after all, and I'm not going to let something bad happen to him. He's not the type to get sick easily, though, and he says something's wrong there. But the slums....I don't know the place at all, and I'm a lone cadet guard and noble. For some, I'm sure I'll be a walking target there. On top of that, there's likely to be a lot of variables there that I'll miss or won't understand because of how foreign the area is to me.

Did I ever agree to be your mentor? Did you even ask me? If you want to learn what I know, then you learn it the way I did: alone. If you don't know the place, then know it. Even if you are a noble and a cadet, it's not like the whole town knows or has to know it. If you don't want to miss anything, use your eyes. Or are those eyeballs just for show? Stop making excuses.

Did you ever say you weren't? And did you ever tell me to go away? I'm sure we've disagreed enough that you easily could have.
But so be it. I'll take this one on myself. And I can see perfectly fine. In fact, better than you at times, if I recall.

That doesn't mean an agreement. Look up the word.

Have fun.
