So working door at Velvet last night I was threatened by a disgruntled patron who we would not readmit into the bar after wandering onto Queen Street with a beer. I recall the guy having an Israeli passport and seemed rather friendly at first. When we refused re-entry he waited a while trying to contact a friend inside, but when he got tired of that he then tried to threaten and cajole his way inside again. We remained firm that he was not allowed in and that's when he became extremely irate and threatened to 'shoot' me making a gun gesture with his fingers at me.
Paul, head of security, immediately got 'Toronto's Finest' on dispatch to get a cruiser over to investigate. This was around 2:30 am. We suggested the man leave before the police arrived, which he did and didn't return.
My beef is that the cops showed up almost an hour later. I chose not to 'ground' the guy due to his Israeli passport knowing that all male Israelis have a compulsory two year term in the military and probably has a good deal more hand-to-hand combat training than I do. But if I had felt further threatened and we had jumped him does that mean we would have had to 'sit' on him for an hour until the cops showed up.
The worst part is that one of the two officers was happily munching on some still steaming Chinese food in his cruiser while the second interviewed me. That means they stopped for Chinese on the way to responding to a call of threatened gun violence.
Fuck.
