what ever happened to...

spontaneity?
Man, I can't do SHIT (well, ok, I can shit) without a friggin' itinerary. More specifically, my travel "plans" require more planning. Renting a car is out due to expense and the dipshit way pick-up/drop-off rules are set (can't leave a car in AL for a week, then take it back when I'm ready). I don't want to fly, but it would actually be cheaper than renting a car for the duration of my trip. At this point I'm thinking Amtrak. More expensive than Greyhound, but the perks make up for it (diner cars, booze, extra room, etc.). Trouble with taking a train is that I can't get to Huntsville (where my truck is kept by my mom) via Amtrak, I have to go to B'ham. Guess if I go that route I'll have to bus to H'ville or my mom has agreed to drive my truck down too me. Still working that out. No wonder folks in NYC without cars and mad cash don't leave that often...

I need a vacation. I need my familiar surroundings, and that's still Alabama and the lovely people who live there. I also desperately need hard labor and some nature. I already volunteered to do some grunt work for my old M'vallo ceramics prof. and my two bestest lady friends and I were planning a day hike (ok, and lots of drinking afterward).

However, all of this might be rendered moot tomorrow, depending on Morrison's second visit to the vet's office. We went Saturday and discovered that my poor monkey-head has gained a pound or two (he's an indoor cat these days, it happens, sadly) and that his drooling might be related to tooth decay. Shit. This morning I got a call about his blood work results and his kidney numbers are a *tad* off. We're going to follow up with a urine test and take more blood to see how his thyroid is functioning. Also looking further into the drooling--could be the virus (?) more commonly know to cause "cat scratch fever." I'm really worried about mister kitty face. Because I had a cat die of kidney failure (granted, he was 16 or 17 years old, he was going to die of something, regardless) I am super up-tight about Morrison's kidneys. He doesn't drink water on purpose (most cats don't), so he's on wet food. We'll get it under control, I just hate not knowing what's going on, and I really hate that he's not in superb health, because I made sure he was friggin' perfect last year when I took him out of AL. Damnit.

Anyway, depending on the cost of this second visit and possible future visits, and hinging on whether or not he gets meds, I might just have to postpone this trip until Thanksgiving. I don't want PM to have to take care of Morrison all by himself while I dick around in AL, and I certainly don't want to leave my mouser-man if he's not feeling good. Suck. Suck suck suck.

travel, morrison
