So I'm doing this concert with the Boston Pops tonight, tomorrow and Saturday. Yesterday morning, we had our first and only rehearsal with the orchestra at symphony hall, which was the most amazing morning of my life. We had a sound check and everything at like 9ish, then we spaced some stuff out on the stage, then the orchestra came and and started tuning. We were supposed to start at 1030, so at about 1028, this woman came out on the stage while the orchestra was tuning and was like "whoever sings 'Beginner's Luck' should come up on stage now." So I grabbed my microphone and went up on stage and stood there waiting for about 90 seconds while they finished, having a minor heart attack/moment of hyperventilation. I looked back at this orchestra of like 100 musicians and then turned around and faced the empty house of 2300 seats and waited. Then the conductor asked for the tempo, I agreed with his, and the orchestra started playing the mere four bar intro to my song. Now, it was only four bars, but I kid you not, I was about to cry at this sound. It was the most incredible thing I've ever heard. And I proceeded to sing the song, complete with a little dance break. Anyway, I cannot put into words what it feels like to be on that stage right in front of all of them. It was the most incredible morning ever. I honestly did not know that singing could feel like that.
We open tonight at 8:00. I'm nervous but so excited.
