All I Know, I've Learned from Crabs

Today the house was given the "tiny comb and special shampoo" treatment.  Yes, the crabs have been released back into the wild.  No more aerator droning in the living room, no more crunching and cracking noises as they rip into those perriwinkles, no more beady little crustacean eyes watching my housemates and I as we eat and watch TV.  I'll miss 'em.

But then again, there's a lot more room to rest my feet on the table now.

So what did we learn from my 14 extra housemates during the past two weeks?  Well, there may not be a rigid social structure, but there is a definite hierarchy based on size.  The giant crab hung out in the middle pretty much every time we made observations, and most of the warding behavior we witnessed was between him and the two other large crabs.  The small crabs seemed to realize they were totally out of contention and just millded around on the fringes of the shelter.  One medium-sized crab was newly mature but hopelessly outmatched, so it contented itself with being a scrappy nuisance to the large crabs without ever successfully taking and holding any territory.  The data has yet to be organized into charts and posters and whatnot, but that's basically a formality.  Even without analysis, our data supports our hypothesis.  Also, we managed to keep all 14 crabs alive for the entire test period.

Which means we rule.

Now that that milestone of my semester is behind me, I just have some additional schoolwork to wrap up (mostly concerning Dr. Wetherbee's shark stuff) and then it's Living frigging Proof!  The artists are booked, the schedule is completed, the staging is organized, fliers have been passed out, friends have been bothered to show up or volunteer, and tickets are on sale.  For you URI students reading this, student price went down to 20 bucks over the weekend.
It's crazy thinking that this is actually about to happen after nearly a year helping put it together.  I can only imagine it's even more surreal for the people who've been working on this since last May.  In less than two weeks, I'll be helping run a concert that has the Misfits and Mike Doughty as headliners.  I'll be playing with FlareGunSuicide at this concert.

Before then, open mic at the coffeehouse on the 18th, where I'm hoping to debut a new song I've been trying to finish for a while.  Also, I'll be playing as a hired gun for someone else.  I'm moving up in the world, making a name...

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta...
