the iq test

May 20, 2005 03:35

so i had a few thoughts the other day and i wrote them down on paper. now i figured i would go ahead and type them out on here.

why is the iq regarded so highly in our society today? the average person can tell you that they feel the iq score is important, but is it really? do we even need iq tests? the iq score does not determine the level of one's success. a person with an iq of 100 can lead a more successful and fruitful life as that of a person with an iq score of 160. applicants for employment don't even need to show proof of their iq score. therefore, it is not need to get a job. so why do we have them? could it be that iq tests exist solely for the purpose of building our own egos and/or using it for means of putting our peers in their place? so for positive purposes, the iq score is useless. it does nothing for you. then the only thing left to ask is why would the iq score be so highly prized in our culture? one misconception about the iq score is that most people feel this is a reflection of their intelligence. everyone wants to be around intelligent people. you want someone that will be able to understand things on your level. sad thing is, the iq score does not reflect intelligence. as previously stated, two people with two different iq scores will and can perform in the same way.

that was all the writing i was able to get in at the time and i don't feel like picking up where i left off either. so if you have something to add feel free to do so.

-and that's all she wrote.
