Thanksgiving! Happened! Cooked for my church small group, or at least five of them. My meat thermometer broke within 10 minutes of me taking it out of the package, so I was worried that the turkey wouldn't be cooked all the way, but it was PERFECT, if I do say so myself. Made stuffing and sweet potatoes and green bean casserole and mash and gravy and everything. The turkey was the best part. A couple of the small group girls came over a couple hours before dinner to help cook and set the table, do dishes, mash the potatoes, etc. It was a nice group effort.
The next day, I went over to Martina's and we had a mini-Thanksgiving just the two of us, with a frozen turkey breast, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Her flatmate came home and we all watched a weird British dark comedy.
It was a nice time.
Yesterday I went to a special program at church called "Walk Through The Bible" -- it is a crash course in the Old Testament that aims to make you memorize the books and events of the OT in a short amount of time. It was an all-day thing, but it just flew by. I can now name in order the books of the OT and map the movement of the Israelites complete with place names and books each event were found in and everything. I don't know how long that will last and it is not a very cool superpower, but it was a pretty fun day.
It was also St. Andrew-patron-saint-of-Scotland's Day yesterday and there were a number of events going on around town. A coursemate and I got tickets to a traditional Scottish music concert held in the super fancy muraled be-organed hall that is used for graduations. There were harps, bagpipes, fiddles, flutes, accordions, and concertinas. I want to join a Scottish music troupe. They all have super Scottish names like Callum, Graeme, Ewan, Fiona, and Mairi.
The first semester is already over, though, so I better hop to it. I have so many things I want to do next semester. One is getting a job or internship. I'm also thinking of signing up for a course on illustrated medieval texts... which means I would get to touch all of the old books in the library museum for a reason instead of just being weird.
Before that though, I have two papers. Piece o cake. Maybe.
