[Saturday evening, the sound of a droned Luke yammering away can be heard over the phone lines. While his droning has only lasted a day, the drone was already working on getting of any traces of the old Luke Triton, trying to figure out how to toss out the boy's prized possessions while dear "mom" and "pop" wasn't looking. And now he was happily talking to anyone bothering to listen on the telephone.]
-And I found another puzzle book in my room! Mom must’ve put it there or something, I don’t remembering buying something so bo~ring. Hey, tomorrow’s supposed to be nice, right? We should have some kind of baseball game after church, although - [an empty chuckle] - I’m sure not as good as Billy! He’s great and everything and-
[A abrupt pause, and in the blink of an eye the droned Luke was gone, replaced by the real Luke.
Except that he was certain that only a few seconds ago he was standing side-by-side with the Professor, Flora, Inspector Chelmey, and Barton as they traveled from the clock shop into future London to meet up with his older self.
...This was not future London at all.]

[The phone nearly slips out of his hands, and forgetting that Mayfield phones could broadcast anything, there’s the sound of soft but panicked breathing. He knew this place, even though he hadn't been here for three years. All of his Mayfield memories came flooding back at once. The house, the golems, the pictures of him - a slightly older him - framed on the wall confirmed his worst fears.
What was he doing back here!? He went home, he knew he did! He even celebrated his thirteenth birthday with his mum and papa, so why did they decide to take him now of all times? Realizing that he still had the phone in his hands, Luke's cheery drone voice was replaced by angry, ranting Luke.]
H-hey, higher-ups of Mayfield! Is this your idea of some kind of joke, taking me away for three years and just bringing me back! I was in the middle of something important-! Answer me, or are you just going to keep hiding like the cowardly lot you are?! You better have a good reason for doing this!
